An adjustable latching mechanism for securing together first and second leg support members on an institutional folding table. The latching mechanism comprises a first latching member slidably mounted to the first leg support member and a second latching member mounted to the second leg support member. The first latching mechanism can be extended and retracted between limits so as to permit a multiplicity of positions where the second latching member can engage the first latching member. The first latching member may either be an adjustable latch or an adjustable catch. The latching mechanism is preferably used on a center leg support to maintain the table in a substantially unfolded position.

An anti-glide apparatus for use on an institutional folding table comprising an upper member attached to the table and a lower member slidably disposed with respect to the upper member wherein the lower member is free at all times to infinitely extend and retract between limits so as to allow the lower member to make frictional contact with a supporting surface and the upper member is distinct from any of the table supports. The apparatus is pivotally linked to a center leg support of the table whereby the apparatus is substantially perpendicular to the supporting surface when the table is open and substantially parallel to the top of the table when the table is closed.

An institutional table is of the type in which the table tops and the seats for table users are assembled as an integral (as well as foldable and storable) structure. The table has first and second flat table tops pivotally coupled to one another at a hinge section. A center leg component is coupled to the table tops at the hinge section and supports the table at such hinge section when the table is erected ready for use. The table has a plurality of seat support frames coupled to the table tops. At least one of those seat support frames includes a self-adjustable frame coupled to the first table top by a sliding joint. In a specific embodiment, the seat support frames includes first and second endframe seat supports coupled to the first and second table tops, respectively. Two of the seat support frames, i.e., the first and second midframe seat supports are, respectively, between the center leg component and one of the endframe seat supports. Sliding joints at the midframe seat supports permits both of such seat supports to contact the floor when a user is seated.

A leg mounting device for a table includes a body portion having a bar receiving cavity formed at a radius and extending along a first axis. A nose portion extends from the body portion along a second axis angled with respect to the first axis. Conveniently, the device has a plurality of mounting holes through the body portion. A related table includes a top member having first and second corner components and an undersurface. First and second leg mounting devices are adjacent to the first and second corner components, respectively, and are fixed with respect to the undersurface. Each mounting device includes a body portion having a bar receiving cavity as noted above and the table includes an elongate leg bar extending between the devices and received in the cavity of each mounting device.
