A solid state switch (SSS) monitoring system of an electronic device includes a SSS sensing component that is electrically coupled to a solid state switch. The SSS sensing component generates a switch state signal to indicate a corresponding one of an actuated and an unactuated state of the solid state switch. A controller is communicatively coupled to the SSS sensing component. The controller restarts the SSS sensing component in response to determining that the SSS sensing component is in an inoperative state.

An electronic device includes one or more sensors, one or more processors operable with the one or more sensors, and a status indicator configured to indicate whether an authorized user of the electronic device is busy, free, or somewhere in between. The status indicator can operate in at least a first state and a second state that is different from the first state. The first state indicates the authorized user is busy and should not be disturbed, while the second state indicates the authorized user is free. Red light can be emitted in the first state, and green light in the second state. The state of the status indicator can be set manually, such as with a chopping gesture, or automatically, such as from calendar events stored in a calendaring operation.

Methods and systems for providing status indicators with an electronic device

An electronic device includes one or more sensors, one or more processors operable with the one or more sensors, and a status indicator configured to indicate whether an authorized user of the electronic device is busy, free, or somewhere in between. The status indicator can operate in at least a first state and a second state that is different from the first state. The first state indicates the authorized user is busy and should not be disturbed, while the second state indicates the authorized user is free. Red light can be emitted in the first state, and green light in the second state. The state of the status indicator can be set manually, such as with a chopping gesture, or automatically, such as from a type of audio signal being received by a communication device of the electronic device.

A solid state switch (SSS) monitoring system of an electronic device includes a SSS sensing component that is electrically coupled to a solid state switch. The SSS sensing component periodically generates a clocked pulse that polls the solid state switch. The SSS sensing component determines whether an electrical characteristic of an output of the solid state switch indicates that the solid state switch is actuated. The SSS sensing component generates a switch state signal to indicate a corresponding one of an actuated and an unactuated state of the solid state switch. A controller is communicatively coupled to the SSS sensing component. The controller restarts the SSS sensing component in response to determining that the SSS sensing component is in an inoperative state.

A method for detecting, by a force sensing circuit within an electronic device, a change in force applied to a surface of the electronic device. The method includes correlating the change in the force applied to the surface to a functional change of at least one setting of the electronic device. The method further includes identifying when a detected change is a first change of the change in force, which corresponds to a trigger that activates at least one of a plurality of sensing devices within the force sensing circuit to monitor for a subsequent change in the force. In response to detecting the subsequent change of the change in force, the method includes adjusting the at least one setting of the electronic device based on the subsequent change of the force.

Inconspicuous sensing system across multiple surfaces

The disclosure is directed to a wearable device that is configured to secure itself based on signals received from a pulse sensor. According to one implementation, the pulse sensor includes a light source (e.g., a light-emitting diode) and a photo sensor. The light source, under the control of a processor, shines light having a particular wavelength (e.g., green or infrared). The photo sensor generates signals based on light that it senses. For example, when the light from the light source reflects off a person's skin, then the photo sensor will generate signals based on the reflected light that the photo sensor detects. In this manner, the wearable device can accurately determine whether it is being worn by a user (e.g., by taking a photoplethysmogram) and, when necessary, secure the wearable electronic device.
