Grommet for plurality of cable exits of an enclosure

A durable, economical, and aesthetically pleasing terminal enclosure (2) for housing standardized terminal blocks (50). The terminal enclosure (2) includes a base section (30) formed as an open-faced trough with integral perpendicular end panels (24, 34). The terminal enclosure (2) also has a pair of gull-wing doors (10, 20) which may be closed to cover the base section (30). The doors (10, 20) are formed with a curvature to provide a continuous arching cover over the base section (30), and a plurality of legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) is angled downwardly and inwardly from each door for pivotal attachment to the underside of the base section (30). The combined curvature of the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) and the doors (10, 20) allows opening without a need for frontal clearance. In addition, the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) are pivoted to the base section (30) in such a way that they may be locked in the full-open position, thereby freeing both hands for servicing.

Arrangement for securing a door to an enclosure

A strain relieving holder (40) having a bottom member (42) with channels (48) therealong, and top members (44,46) securable to said bottom member (42) by lugs (68) thereof being received into and held within respective channels (48). Either channels (48) of the bottom member (42) or channels (114) of the top members (44,46) may receive jacketed cable (28) thereinto for strain relief holding thereof. Slots (66) of the bottom member (42) are dimensioned to receive ribbon cables (32) (or buffered fibers 26) therein, and the top members (44,46) secure the ribbon cables (32) in the slots. Holders (40) may be used at ends of fiber optic splice trays (10).

Strain relieving holder for optical fiber cable

An optical fiber splice tray rack and cabinet for holding optical fiber splice trays that enclose splices in optical fibers. The splice tray rack has shelves attached to a back panel, each shelf has a support surface extending from the back panel to a lip that projects from the support surface opposite the back panel to define a tray receiving region for receiving one of the splice trays, and a resilient member that acts generally parallel to the support surface of each shelf for holding the splice tray within the tray receiving region. The box-like cabinet has sides defining a cabinet interior and a tie-down bar attached to the cabinet within the cabinet interior for individually securing the protective outer jacket, the inner jacket and the strength member thereto.

An enclosure (10) for terminal blocks for connection of telephone service cables (22,272,276,322,326) to others thereof or to a distribution cable (16) providing for mounting therewithin of different types of terminal blocks (200,250,300). Several ribs (86) extend across the bottom wall and upwardly to coplanar top edges (88) to support the various types of blocks as several projections (96,124) extend upwardly between at least two of the ribs to top edges (98,126) coplanar with the rib top edges (88) and include apertures (100,132) thereinto for receipt of fasteners for mounting of the terminal blocks (200,250). A ground plate (350) is also mountable in the enclosure atop rib top edges (88) in turn permitting mounting to the top surface thereof of certain terminal blocks (300) having ground contacts (310) requiring grounding. A lid (12) is pivotable to a stable open position.

Enclosure for variety of terminal blocks

An enclosure (10) for junctions of telephone service wires (18,19) and a stub cable (16) includes a rear panel member (20) and a front cover (100) adapted to be slid downwardly to expose the interior of the enclosure for wire interconnection and servicing. Wire-receiving openings (40,42) of the enclosure are organized in linear arrays and are sealed by a pair of elastomeric strips (80,90;44,46) held against the enclosure wall by bracket members (50,48), with one strip (90) having small diameter holes (92) for just fitting around a wire, and the other (80) having slits (82) which remain closed if no wire is inserted into a particular opening, with both the small diameter holes and slits aligned between the enclosure openings and openings (52) through the bracket members. Certain bracket members (50) are mounted to the outer surface of the rear wall (22) of the rear panel member (20) along side edges (32) thereof to define vertical channels (66), and flanges (118,120) of side walls (112,114) of the front cover (100) fit thereinto for guided sliding of the front cover during opening and closing.

Enclosure for telephone cable electrical connectors

An enclosure for terminal blocks for interconnecting conductors of multiconductor cables includes provision for two or more terminal block modules. Each terminal block module includes two terminal blocks defined by a tubular housing section extending from a common base section of a dielectric housing and has an annular cavity extending to an open end, and a tubular one-piece terminal is secured therewithin around a center post of the housing section and is rotatable therewithin by a generally tubular actuator also within said annular cavity and adapted to be rotated during splicing of wires. Each terminal block includes a pair of wire-receiving apertures into which wire ends are inserted to extend through insulation piercing slots of said terminal, and upon actuating rotation said slots pierce the insulation and engage the conductor of each wire thus interconnecting them.

Crossconnect terminal block

An enclosure for terminal blocks for interconnecting conductors of multiconductor cables includes provision for two or more terminal block modules. A lid is pivotably hinged to a box-like base section, with the base section including front and rear walls extending upwardly from a floor, and side walls extending downwardly from a transverse section of the lid into the open regions between the front and rear walls of the base section when the lid is pivoted to its closed position. When the enclosure is mounted vertically the lid is pivotable to an open position overcentered to remain open unassisted. The side walls include ribs having projections which engage upper edges of ridges extending upwardly from side edges of the floor between the front and rear walls, thus camming the lower edges of the side walls inwardly tightly against outwardly facing surfaces of the ridges for sealing.

Enclosure for crossconnect terminal block

An assembly including a housing having a base section from which extend a plurality of silos each housing a terminal having wire terminating sections at or near each end. Along a wire receiving face, first wire terminating sections of the terminals are exposed by wall openings permitting wire insertion for wire termination. Along an interconnection face, second wire termination sections are terminated to wires which extend to other terminals within an electrical connector which is embedded by sealing material along the base section with a mating face exposed, and the wire lengths and terminal ends are also embedded and sealed. The terminals may each have two cylindrical parts with an outer section rotatable within the silo about an inner section to terminate to a wire end inserted into a wall opening of the silo, using insulation displacement slots.

Pluggable connector for use with insulation displacing barrel terminals

A multiple piece terminal includes a first section which is stationary relative to the housing of the connector and rotatable sections which are rotatable relative to the first section. Each of the sections is comprised of a single thickness of metallic material wrapped into a substantially cylinderical configuration, where the rotatable sections are of a larger outer diameter than the first section such that the rotatable sections can engagingly overlie the first section. The first section is mounted to an insulative housing with a post section upstanding through the center of the first section. The post has at least one through opening which includes at least partially along its length, a frusto-conical section for wire section through the opening. The rotatable sections of the terminal has two wire receiving openings, each in communication with a wire-receiving slot around the circumference of the cylinder, with the two wire receiving openings being on opposed sides of the through opening on the post. Caps fit over the rotatable sections of the terminal, each cap has a shoulder which is engagable with a free end of a respective rotatable section of the terminal for rotation of the rotatable section of the terminal relative to the first section of the terminal. When wires are placed in through the caps and the caps are turned, the rotatable sections of the terminal are rotated and the wires are terminated in the wire-receiving slots.
