Disclosed are sealant compositions and electrical connectors having excellent low temperature repairability and outstanding sealing ability at both high and low temperatures. The preferred connectors contain a sealant composition comprising an elastomeric thermoplastic polymer and an extender for said polymer, said extender constituting a major proportion by weight of said sealant composition and said polymer constituting a minor proportion by weight of said sealant composition, wherein said composition preferably has a low-temperature wire insertability of at least about 80 mm. Furthermore, the preferred compositions are both slump and spew resistant over the operating temperature range of the connector.

Disclosed are sealant compositions having excellent slump and spew resistant, even at relatively high operating temperatures for electrical connectors. The sealants, which are flowable at such elevated temperatures, comprise two essential components: elastomeric thermoplastic polymer, preferably an organic polymer composite comprising diblock and triblock copolymers, and extender for the polymer. The extender may comprise a primary and a secondary extender, such as polybutene oil and mineral oil, respectively.

An electrical connector of the type having a housing with terminals extending from apertures thereof, is sealed at the aperture entrances around the extending terminal portions. The sealant material is polymerized of a major proportion of at least one vinyl ester resin, a minor proportion of at least one polymerizable acrylic diluent monomer and a polymerization activation system comprising from about 0.025% to about 17% by weight of the resin, by being exposed to actinic radiation selected to activate the system. Disclosed are moisture and temperature resistant electrical connectors for sealingly connecting transmission means and sealant compositions adapted for use in such connectors, the sealants comprising (i) elastomeric thermoplastic polymer; (ii) extender for said elastomeric thermoplastic polymer; and (iii) cross-linked polymer. The cross-linked polymer is preferably cross-linked in the presence of said elastomeric thermoplastic polymer and is preferably a silicon-based cross-linked polymer.

A sealant material that is relatively chemically inert toward plastics and adhesives is comprised of a homogeneous mixture of polymeric polyester, said polyester being derived from adipic acid, and silica, the polyester comprising more than about 50 percent by weight of the mixture and the fumed silica comprising less than about 20 percent by weight of the mixture. In a preferred embodiment, the sealant material further contains an organofunctional silane coupling agent, a polyfunctional bridging agent, a dispersing agent and a fluorosurfactant.

Electrical connector containing adipic acid polyester sealant composition

A dielectric composition capable of being polymerized for use in sealing electrical and electro-optical connectors and devices is disclosed. Said composition is comprised of a major proportion of vinyl ester resins, a minor proportion of polymerizable acrylic diluent monomers, and a polymerization activation system comprised of from about 0.25 percent to about 17 percent by weight of the resin. A process of the present invention includes applying a layer of said composition to desired areas or to desired locations such as apertures surrounding electrical terminals extending from a connector housing, and exposing said composition to actinic radiation which activates the polymerization activation system which causes the composition to polymerize to form a sealant material that exclused solder and solvents from the connector and its apertures.

A sealant material that is relatively chemically inert toward plastics and adhesives is comprised of a homogeneous mixture of polymeric adipate polyester and fumed silica, the polyester comprising about 80 to 85 percent by weight of the mixture and the fumed silica comprising about 15 percent to 20 percent by weight of the mixture. In the preferred embodiment, the sealant material further contains about 0.02 to 0.04 percent of an organofunctional silane and about 0.03 percent to 0.07 percent of a fluorosurfactant.

Sealant composition

A fusible flame retardant sealant composition comprised of a homogeneous mixture of polyvinylidene fluoride, methacrylate polymer, and antimony oxide is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the sealant composition also contains zinc oxide. The sealant composition as disclosed herein is used to make fusible sealant inserts for preinsulated electrical connectors having a heat recoverable sleeve. The connectors are essentially comprising a conductor connecting means positioned within the heat recoverable sleeve, the conductor connecting means being designed to receive and electrically connect two or more electrical conducting members, the members being inserted from the ends of the sleeve, and one fusible sealant insert member made of said composition positioned near each one of the open ends of the sleeve. Upon application of sufficient heat to the sleeve, the sleeve recovers around the conductor connecting means and the electrical conducting members, and the fusible sealant insert members soften, conform and adapt to the conducting member, adhere to the conducting member and the sleeve, and seal the interstices between the conducting member and the recovered sleeve. The resulting seal is flame retardant and resistant to corrosive chemicals such as jet fuel and lubricant.

Visible light curable dental restorations are provided having improved color stability. According to a preferred embodiment, visible light hardenable restorative materials are formulated from a major proportion of inorganic filler and a minor proportion of a resin component comprising a binder resin selected from the group of acrylated polyesters, acrylated polyesters reacted with an isocyanate, and hydroxyalkyl acrylic esters reacted with an isocyanate, polymerizable acrylic diluent monomer in an amount sufficient to control the viscosity of the resin component, and a photosensitizing system comprising of from about 0.05% to about 0.50% by weight of the restorative material of an alpha diketone together with an amine reducing agent. American Dental Association color stability standards are met by these compositions.

Process for filling dental cavities with radiation curable silaneous adhesives comprising a polymerizable resin comprising at least 20% by weight of a polymerizable silane and optionally up to about 80% by weight of a polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated material. According to a preferred embodiment, the polymerizable silane is either an acrylosilane or a vinyl silane.
