Contact, mixing, and often quenching box (), with main dimension (D) and height (H), comprising at least one duct section (B) located on the upper part of said box () for entry of fluids in which said box () comprises, downstream from said duct section (B), in the direction in which the fluids circulate, a means (B) that provides, in said box (), for making the fluids swirl in an approximately nonradial direction, and not parallel to the overall direction of circulation of said fluids, and comprising at least one annular, peripheral duct section (B) for the exit of said mixture of fluids formed in said box () whose lower level is located above the upper level for fluid entry through at least one lateral inlet (B) located in said box () above means (B). A reaction chamber () elongated along an essentially vertical axis in which at least one reaction fluid is circulated from top to bottom of said chamber () through at least one catalyst bed (), whereby downstream from catalyst bed () in the direction of circulation of the reaction fluid, the chamber contains at least one inlet () for introducing at least one quenching fluid into contact with the reaction fluid, and downstream from inlet () the chamber contains at least one box () for further contact, mixing and quenching of said fluids. The box () has at least one passage section () for entry of the fluids into the box (). Downstream from the passage section () the box () contains elements () that puts fluids into vortex motion in the box () in a direction essentially non-radial and non-parallel to the axis of the chamber.
