A rolling process for long solid-section products includes the steps of rolling stock through a plurality of rolling mill stands, the rolled stock being subjected to a tensile load, between the plurality of stands, that generates a single-axial deformation greater than 0.1 in the rolling direction, and is also deformed by compression between the rolls of at least one of the rolling mill stands, thereby achieving a reduction in the cross section area of at least 5%, preferably of between 5 and 50%. A rolling mill, in which a plurality of stands is connected by spacer elements designed to offset the tensile load; a rolling mill, in which a plurality of stands is connected by elements designed to offset the overturning moment generated by the tensile load; and a rolling mill, in which the aforesaid rolling stands maintain a non-slip condition.

A contactless braking system and a related method for decelerating long products (bi) exiting from a rolling mill (). At least one braking module () includes a multiplicity of electromagnets () in a series along a braking line (). Each magnet has an open magnetic core () and a coil () around the magnetic core (). The open magnetic core () has a gap formed by two opposed poles. The electromagnets () are configured so that the gap of each open magnetic core () lets contactlessly slide therethrough each long product (bi) exiting from the rolling mill (). A braking magnetic force (Fd) is exerted on the long product (bi) contactlessly sliding through the gap. The braking magnetic force (Fd) is opposite to the direction of movement of the long product (bi) exiting the rolling mill ().

A method for producing long metal products includes the steps of receiving long intermediate products traveling on respective continuous casting lines, to an exit area, and subsequently introducing products from the exit area into a production plant having known layout parameters; the production plant has a rolling mill for rolling the products; interconnected production lines between the exit area of the casting machine and the rolling mill, the production lines define production paths or routes; and a first and a second heating devices. The method associates a mathematical model to the production plant for dynamically calculating a reference value, or Global Heating Cost Index, correlated to heating devices; automatically determining for the intermediate products the production path or route that minimizes the reference value, or Global Heating Cost Index; and eventually automatically routing each of the products along the determined production path which minimizes the reference value, or Global Heating Cost Index.
