A process for obtaining pentafluoroethane HFC 125 by dismutation of gaseous tetrafluorochloroethane HCFC 124, at temperatures in the range 200&deg;-300&deg; C., on a trivalent chromium oxide (Cr,O,) catalyst, supported on aluminum fluoride, by feeding HF in such amount that the HCFC 124/HF molar ratio is in the range 10/1-1/1.

Process for obtaining pentafluoroethane by tetrafluorochloroethane dismutation

Process for preparing HCFC-123 with a content of olefins lower than 10 ppm and very small amounts of HCFC-123a and 123b by dismutation of HCFC-124 in gaseous phase by contact with a catalyst which essentially consists of three valence chromium oxide supported on aluminum fluoride, at temperatures in the range 150&deg;-260&deg; C., and with contact times between 5-25 sec.

Process for preparing pentafluoroethane (HFC-125) wherein 1,1,1-trifluorodichloroethane (HFC-123) is reacted with HF at a temperature from 310&deg; to 380&deg; C., in the presence of a catalyst comprising Cr,O,supported on preformed AlF,. HFC-125 is obtained with high yields (up to 60-70% and over), high conversions (over 80%) and high selectivity, i.e. formation of by-product in very low amounts (5% by moles at most) Moreover, the catalyst maintains a high activity for a long time also with high organic charges.

Process for preparing aluminum fluoride having an high surface area and high pore volume comprising the fluorination with HF of alumina having surface area of at least 150 m,/g and pore volume not lower than 0.3 cc/g, said alumina comprising from about 0.5 up to about 15% by weight of silicon oxide.

Fluorination process of halogenated organic compounds with gaseous anhydrous HF characterized in that a catalyst comprising a supported Cr(III) amorphous compound is used, wherein the support consists in an aluminum trifluoride (AlF.sub.3) having an high surface area and an high pore volume obtainable by fluorination with gaseous HF of alumina having surface area of at least 150 m.sup.2 /g and pore volume not lower than 0.3 cc/g and wherein said alumina comprises from 0.5 up to 15% by weight of silicon oxide, the chromium amount being comprised between 1 and 20% by weight.

Fluorination process of halogenated organic compounds

A fluorination catalyst based on of an amorphous Cr (III) compound and on a compound of another metal selected from Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Sc, Ti and Zr, wherein the atomic ratio of Cr/other metal is between 50:1 and 1:1, said compounds are supported on a AlF.sub.3 support and being prepared by impregnating the support with a concentrated aqueous solution containing a soluble Cr (III) salt and a soluble salt of the other metal. The catalyst can be used in gaseous phase reactions.
