Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) and a base station may determine whether the UE is inside or outside of a vehicle with a relay device. Techniques for determining whether the UE is inside or outside of the vehicle are described herein. The UE may determine whether to camp on a cell of the relay device based on whether the UE is inside or outside the vehicle. The base station may perform connected mode mobility for the UE based on whether the UE is inside or outside the vehicle.

Techniques for efficient mobility using relay devices

A method of wireless communication performs a public land mobile network (PLMN) search for a higher priority PLMN. The PLMN search includes a candidate PLMN having a different mobile country code (MCC) than a serving PLMN. The method switches to the higher priority PLMN when the PLMN search locates the higher priority PLMN. A method determines whether a user equipment (UE) has transitioned between an international area and a national area. The method triggers PLMN selection in response to the UE having transitioned between the international area and the national area.

Wireless network selection in international areas

Example implementations include a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium of wireless communication for a network node to transport signaling used to coordinate management of a RAN for local traffic between a first node and a UE across a wireless connection. The network node may establish a first wireless signaling connection between a first node and a second node. The network node may encapsulate or decapsulate traffic associated with a second wireless signaling connection within the first wireless signaling connection. The second wireless signaling connection corresponds to a non-F1 interface of a control plane or user plane network function that terminates at the first node. For instance, the network node may be a consumer premises equipment (CPE) serving a UE, a base station wirelessly serving the CPE, or a core network node providing control for the UE.

Signaling to support RAN management for local traffic

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for slice-aware network selection. Particular aspects provide for a method for wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes obtaining, for one or more networks, network slicing information indicating one or more slice identifiers supported in the one or more networks, deriving a list of one or more preferred networks based, at least in part, on the network slicing information, and selecting a network to register with from the list of one or more preferred networks.

Slice-aware PLMN selection

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first user equipment (UE) may establish a PC5 unicast link with a second UE. The UE may transmit, to a second UE in a PC5 radio resource control (RRC) message, capability information that includes an indication that the first UE is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Messaging for unmanned aerial vehicle sidelink communications

Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques that allow the user equipment (UE) that initiated single radio voice call continuity (SRVCC) handover during an active voice session from 5G new radio (NR) to 3G legacy system to effectively transition back from 3G legacy systems to 5G NR systems after conclusion of the active voice session. In one example, the UE may override radio resource control (RRC) connection release with evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) frequency information that may direct the UE to camp in E-UTRAN cell (LTE cell). In another example, the UE, as a local policy or configuration, may override the UTRAN cell information when the UE is registered in next generation radio access network (NR) cell as 5G capable UE.

UE based fast return to 5G

Methods, systems, and devices are described for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) offloading through radio access network rules. In one embodiment of a method of wireless communication, a mobile device may determine that Radio Access Network (RAN) assistance information is unavailable, the RAN assistance information including a first set of thresholds for switching a Packet Data Network (PDN) connection of the mobile device from a WLAN to a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN). The mobile device may further access a second set of thresholds based at least in part on the determining, and the mobile device may determine to switch the PDN connection from the WLAN to the WWAN based at least in part on the second set of thresholds.

Wireless local area network offloading through radio access network rules

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for improved traffic management in wireless communications are disclosed. Aspects of the present disclosure provide real-time assessments to a network by leveraging measurement reports from user equipment (UE). In some aspects, the network utilizes channel quality indicator (CQI) information from each of a serving cell and a neighboring cell to identify UE capabilities and expected UE performance prior to either offloading or rerouting traffic to the UE. Accordingly, based on the received CQI information and a greater understanding of the anticipated UE performance, the radio network controller (RNC) may be better equipped to determine whether to offload and/or reroute the traffic scheduled for transmission to the UE via the neighboring cell or the serving cell.

Offloading through simplified multiflow

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate communicating PSC split information regarding neighboring cells. The PSC split information can be transmitted in one or more overhead messages selected based on network deployment. Where macro cells and femto cells provide PSC split information, which can be a PSC range for related cells, PSC list, etc., the information can be transmitted in a low priority overhead message since it can be obtained at a source cell. Where only femto cells or closed subscriber group (CSG) cells provide PSC split information, the information can be transmitted in a higher priority more frequently transmitted message. In this regard, the information is available at target cells since not all devices can access CSG cells. Thus, by providing the PSC split information in a more frequently transmitted message, devices can retrieve the PSC split information early on in communications to lower power consumption.

Optimized signaling of primary scrambling codes and frequency lists in wireless communications

User Equipments (UEs) can be adapted to enter into a lower RRC state from a higher RRC state, and search for one or more layers of higher priority within a predetermined period of time upon entering into the lower RRC state. According to at least one aspect, this search for one or more layers of higher priority may be performed irrespective of RF quality of a current serving cell. According to at least another aspect, this search for one or more layers of higher priority may be conducted within the predetermined period of time if a wait period has elapsed since the UE camped on the current serving cell. If the wait period has not elapsed since camping on the current serving cell, the search for one or more layers of higher priority may be performed within the predetermined period of time following a duration of the wait period.

Apparatus and methods for facilitating cell reselection for higher priority layers

Methods and apparatuses are provided for determining available uplink bandwidth as an achievable throughput for a link. An available link capacity of a link with a cell for a user equipment is estimated based on a communication quality measured in the cell. An available fraction of cell resources for the user equipment over the link is also estimated based at least in part on received assistance information. An available bandwidth of the cell is then estimated as an achievable throughput for the user equipment over the link as a function of the estimated available link capacity and the estimated available fraction of cell resources. Moreover, a network procedure can be performed based at least in part on comparing the achievable throughput to one or more thresholds.

Method and apparatus for estimating an achievable link throughput based on assistance information

Methods and apparatus for power management comprise detecting, at a user equipment (UE), a state transition trigger, wherein the state transition trigger indicates a current data transmission termination or an anticipated data transmission termination. Further, the methods and apparatus comprise sending a state transition indication to the network entity in response to detecting the state transition trigger. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise adjusting a state of the UE based at least in part on sending the state transition indication to the network entity.

Apparatus and methods for enhanced mobile power management

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate distributing and/or utilizing a Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) Identifier (ID) that identifies a CSG corresponding to a base station and a CSG indication that distinguishes between the base station permitting access to members of the CSG and permitting access to members and non-members of the CSG. For instance, the CSG ID can uniquely identify the CSG corresponding to the base station. A mobile device can receive the CSG ID and the CSG indication from the base station. Further, the received CSG ID can be compared to CSG IDs included in an allowed CSG list to recognize whether the mobile device is a member or a non-member of the CSG. Moreover, a preference for selecting the base station as compared to a disparate base station can be generated as a function of the received CSG ID and CSG indication.
