The disclosure relates to a method of operating a system, the system comprising a near field communication, NFC, tag, an NFC device associated with a user of the system and a computer, the method comprising: the NFC device requesting a message from the NFC tag; the NFC tag generating a message comprising a representation of a counter value; the NFC tag sending the message to the NFC device; the NFC device generating a request comprising the representation of the counter value in response to receiving the message; the NFC device sending the request to a computer; the NFC device submitting user authentication data to the computer; and the computer executing an operation on verification of the counter value and the authentication data.

Near field communication system

A multiple application smart card uses hardware firewalls and an internal communications scheme to isolate applications from different service providers. A first application from a first service provider is stored within a first supplemental security domain of a memory device on the multiple application smart card. A second application from a second service provider is stored within a second SSD of the memory device. A hardware firewall is located between the first and second applications of the first and second SSDs. The hardware firewall prevents direct data access between the first and second applications of the first and second SSDs.

Protected mode for global platform complaint smart cards

A device for transmitting in multiple coupling modes has a transmission module (), at least one periphery module (), and an antenna () for each of the multiple coupling modes. Further, in a method of switching between multiple coupling modes, switching is conducted between at least polling and listening phases of first and second coupling modes. The device and the method enable a seamless switching between e.g. a near field communication and a body coupled communication. Such a coupling or switching is particularly useful for performing secure transactions whereby through body coupled communication a body-worn tag is interrogated which provides a secure code for a transaction initiated through near field communication with a transaction terminal.

Switching between multiple coupling modes

A tag store system and method for making contactless tags available to end users of tag-related software applications is described. The system and method employs an identifier for a tag ordering interface, which is generated using tag framework data for a contactless tag associated with a tag-related software application. The tag ordering interface allows the contactless tag to be ordered using the tag ordering interface. The identifier is included in the tag-related software application and is used to request for the tag ordering interface from an end user device running the tag-related software application.

A method for storing or reading data in a memory array of a transponder and a corresponding transponder, read/write device and program element is described. Therein, a data structure for storing data within the memory array is defined by a predetermined protocol. The data structure comprises: a header data block including predefined header data; an application data block for storing application data; a memory control data block including a reservation indicator for indicating a reserved partial memory area of the memory array where, in accordance with the predetermined protocol, application data cannot be read or written by a protocol compliant reader device. The method for storing data comprises storing additional application data in the reserved partial memory area. Thereby, memory areas which, according to the predetermined protocol, are not used can be used for new applications, data can be hidden in these areas such that they cannot be read by protocol compliant reader devices and the data structure read or written by the method of the invention is compatible with the former predetermined protocol.

Various exemplary embodiments relate to an integrated circuit including: a RF interface; a wired interface connectable to a host; a volatile memory having a first block and a last block configured to store data transferred between the RF interface and the wired interface; and a memory controller configured to detect when the last block of the volatile memory has been written and to indicate that the volatile memory is ready to read. Various exemplary embodiments relate to a method performed by a tag including: determining that data is to be received on the first interface; blocking the second interface; writing data from the first interface to a volatile memory; detecting that the last block of the volatile memory has been written; unblocking the second interface; indicating that data is available for reading; blocking the first interface; and reading data from the volatile memory to the second interface.

Near-field communication (NFC) is effected in a manner that ensures that messages are read. In accordance with one or more embodiments, an apparatus includes a NFC antenna, a NFC tag and a host connected to the NFC tag via both a data communication circuit and a field detection circuit. The NFC tag stores and transmits an NFC data exchange format (NDEF) message via the NFC antenna. The NFC tag includes first and second registers respectively having data indicative of a read status of the NDEF message and data indicative of a last portion/byte of the NDEF message data. When the NDEF message is accessed (e.g., transmitted), the NFC tag sets the data in the first register to indicate that the NDEF message has been read (e.g., sets a bit value). The trigger circuit generates a trigger signal in response to the status, indicating that the NDEF message has been read.

An apparatus for storing or reading data in a memory array of a transponder and a corresponding transponder, read/write device and program element is described. Therein, a data file system for storing data within the memory array is defined by a predetermined protocol. The storing additional data includes checking whether a memory size of the application data file is larger than the memory size indicated by the application data length indicator; and storing second application data in a partial memory area of the application data file not occupied by the first application data.
