The invention describes a process for the manufacture of a filled rubber compound with improved processability which comprises mixing in one-step a) a rubber, b) a white reinforcing filler, and c) a coupling agent of the Formula (I), wherein the general symbols are as defined in claim, or an oligomeric hydrolysis product of the compound of the Formula (I).

The present invention relates to selected glycidyl or carbonyl functional N-alkoxy-4,4-dioxy-polyalkyl-piperidine compounds forming an open chain or cyclic ketal structure, a polymerizable composition comprising a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and b) a glycidyl or carbonyl functional N-alkoxy-4,4-dioxy-polyalkyl-piperidine nitroxide initiator compound. Further aspects of the present invention are a process for polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers and the use of glycidyl or carbonyl functional N-alkoxy-4,4-dioxy-polyalkyl-piperidine nitroxide initiators for radical polymerization.

The invention describes a composition comprising a) a naturally occurring or synthetic elastomer susceptible to oxidative, thermal, dynamic, light-induced and/or ozone-induced degradation, b) a white reinforcing filler, and c) as coupling agent, at least one compound of the formula (I) wherein the general symbols are as defined in claim, or an oligomeric hydrolysis product of the compound of the formula (I).

The present invention provides a method of forming comb or star copolymers. The comb or star copolymers are useful in surface modification of thermoplastic materials or as surfactants. The method is aimed at attaching a polymeric side chain differing in polarity and chemical structure from the backbone and forming a comb or star copolymer structure. In particular the process comprises polymerizing in a first step a polymer backbone from epoxy and nitroxylether group containing monomers and in a second step polymerizing under controlled radical conditions a comb or star structure onto this backbone. Polymer blends, in particular polyphenylene ether-polyamide blends, are effectively compatibilized by incorporating under blending conditions certain oligomers, cooligomers, polymers and copolymers of narrow molecular weight distribution that are prepared under free radical polymerization conditions with glycidyl-functionalized nitroxyl initiators. The oligomers, cooligomers, polymers and copolymers contain at least one oxyamine group and at least one glycidyl-containing initiator group. The polymer blends have excellent mechanical properties.

A description is given of novel stabilizer mixtures comprising at least one compound of the formula ##STR1## and at least one compound of the formula ##STR2## in which the variables are as defined in the claims. The novel stabilizer mixtures are suitable for stabilizing organic material, especially textile fiber materials, against damage by light, oxygen and heat.
