A driver circuit for driving a transmission line includes a voltage driver and a current driver. The voltage driver is for driving the transmission line with a first voltage gain in a first operation mode. The current driver is activatable in a second operation mode for driving, together with the voltage driver, the transmission line with a second voltage gain. The transmission line may be an Ethernet-over-copper transmission line with electrical data signals from a data generator.

Line driver circuit and method

A method of driving an electrical load having a complex electrical impedance, such as a voice-coil motor controlling the position of a read/write head in a data storage disk drive system, comprises providing a voltage-mode driver generating drive signals for the electrical load in response to drive commands. Compensated commands for the voltage-mode driver are generated filtering the drive commands, compensating for a phase shift between electrical quantities delivered to the electrical load. The voltage-mode drive thus emulates a conventional, but more expensive, current-mode drive. In a preferred embodiment, the method comprises estimating characteristic parameters of the electrical load during the operation, and adapting the filtering to the estimated characteristic parameters. The estimation comprises implementing a Kalman filtering algorithm, particularly an extended Kalman filtering.

Voltage-mode drive for driving complex impedance loads

An integrated electronic circuit includes a plurality of active circuits connected together in cascade. A feedback loop is between an output of a last active circuit and an input of a first active circuit so that the plurality of active devices function as a non-linear device, such as an inductor. The integrated electronic circuit may be integrated or used in association with a circuit network including other non-linear devices.

An integrated electronic circuit includes a plurality of active circuits connected together in cascade. A feedback loop is between an output of a last active circuit and an input of a first active circuit so that the plurality of active devices function as a non-linear device, such as a capacitor. The integrated electronic circuit may be integrated or used in association with a circuit network including other non-linear devices.

A current amplifier includes an input branch having a first input; an output branch coupled to said input branch; a bias branch suitable for biasing said input branch. The input branch comprises at least one switch commanded by a first bias voltage supplied by said bias branch so as to substantially block the current flowing in said input branch and consequently substantially block the current flowing in said output branch when the current applied to said first input is null.

Current amplifier

A method is provided for driving a load in a pulse width modulation (PWM) mode as a function of numeric command values having a predetermined number of N-bits. The method includes the step of incrementing by more than a unit the number of bits on which a selected command value is mapped, wherein a unit equals N-bits plus a plurality of additional bits. The N most significant bits of the selected command value are converted. The plurality of additional bits are decoded by generating a corresponding plurality of intermediate levels of variation in the duty cycle. Each intermediate level has a duration of half a clock period and produces a plurality of signals out of phase among each other by half a clock period. A driving PWM signal is generated by multiplexing the signals out of phase among each other by half a clock period, and carrying out logic combinations of these signals as a function of a most significant bit of the selected command value and as a function of the plurality of additional bits.

Conversion of a numeric command value in a constant frequency PWM drive signal for an electromagnetic load

A drive circuit for controlled edge power elements is described. In one embodiment the drive circuit for controlled edge power elements comprises: a first integrating circuit having a first input suitable for receiving in input a first drive signal; an integrating capacitor coupled to said integrating circuit; a first power element driven by said first integrating circuit and suitable for driving a load, said load having a first terminal. The said first integrating circuit includes a first current amplifier and said integrating capacitor is coupled between said first input and a predetermined reference voltage.

Drive circuit for controlled edge power elements

The present invention relates a current zero crossing detecting circuit including a PWM driving half bridge circuit, which generates an output signal (OUT) and a signal synchronous with the high impedance condition of said PWM driving half bridge circuit. Said inventive circuit has the characteristic of comprising detecting means (DFLIP, COMP) synchronous with said signal synchronous with the high impedance condition of said PWM driving half bridge circuit and said output signal (OUT), and said detecting means generating a direction signal (DIR_COR) showing the current direction flowing in said pulse width modulation circuit.

Current zero crossing detecting circuit

A method is provided for driving a brushless motor of a type including windings pre-connected in a star or polygon configuration with an integrated driving system designed for independently driving the phase windings. The integrated driving system includes a plurality of output pins corresponding to the output nodes of as many half-bridge stages that are driven in pairs respectively by a direct or inverted driving signal at the same power level without overloading the output metal lines of the integrated device. Each supply terminal of the brushless motor is connected to one of the plurality of output pins of the integrated system relative to a first driving phase signal and to another output pin relative to a different driving phase signal. The drive circuit is internally configured through a plurality of integrated signal path selectors set in one or the other position depending upon the intended use of the integrated device. Further, the paths of the driving phase signals directed toward the inputs of the plurality of half-bridges driven in pairs are coherently crossed to the external connecting scheme of the windings of the motor.

An electronic switch in integrated circuit from includes a first n-channel MOS transistor and a second n-channel MOS transistor with respective source-drain paths in series between an input terminal and an output terminal, and a third n-channel MOS transistor connected between a connection node between the first and second transistors and a supply terminal. The gate electrodes of the first and second transistors are connected together to a first control terminal and the gate electrode of the third transistor is connected to a second control terminal of the electronic switch. The first and third transistors are formed in a first p-well and the second transistor is formed in a second p-well, insulated from the first. A circuit branch which is identical, but provided by p-channel MOS transistors is also provided between the input and output terminals. The electronic switch is usable in circuit applications with transient voltages which may go beyond the supply voltage of the integrated circuit in a positive or negative direction.

Leakage-free integrated electronic switch

A device presenting pairs of split contact pad portions, each pair of pads having multiple bonding wire, and metal connecting strips associated therewith. The end portion of the metal connecting strips being split into parallel strip segments, each connected to a respective contact pad, so as to form a plurality of parallel current paths between a node and an external contact pin connected to the node. When current is supplied along the connecting strip a voltage drop along each segment connected to a sound bonding wire is produced, but not along the segments connected to broken or non-bonded wires. By determining the existence of a voltage difference between the contact pad portions, it is possible to detect the interruption of one or more of the bonding wires.
