Traction fluid with improved low temperature characteristics

A lubricant formulation for an electric or hybrid vehicle includes a base oil, or a blend thereof, one or more additives, and a molybdenum amine complex, such as diisotridecylamine molybdate, are provided. Lubricant formulations can be characterized by one of: improving electric motor protection when a voltage is applied to an electrode in the presence of a formulation comprising the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive as compared to a fluid lacking the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive; maintaining the electrical resistance slope of a formulation comprising the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive as compared to a fluid lacking the diisotridecylamine molybdate additive; the formulation forming a protective film on copper surfaces; a change in color of the formulation indicating contact load, temperature, time, or viscosity change.

Lubricant for use in electric and hybrid vehicles and methods of using the same

Systems and methods are described for tracking information of an equipment including a telematics device configured to receive data from the equipment to determine a telematics information. The telematics information includes at least two of an equipment type, a location, a duration in the location, and miles travelled. A transmission device is configured to transmit the vehicle telematics information to at least one of a third party entity device, a government device and a mobile device.

System and method for telematics for tracking equipment usage

A lubricant formulation for an electric or hybrid vehicle includes a base oil, or a blend thereof, one or more additives, and a molybdenum amine complex, such as diisotridecylamine molybdate, are provided. A silicone modified lubricant includes a Group I, II, III, IV or V base oil in combination with a minor amount of a silicone oil. Further, the lubricant includes a dispersant such as a dispersant olefin copolymer which maintains the silicone oil dispersed in the base oil. The silicone oil reduces the surface tension of the lubricant thereby reducing power loss. Preferably the lubricant formation has a surface tension less than 28 mN/m, making it particularly suitable for dip lubrication systems.

Silicone modified lubricant

A lubricant formulation which is effective to remove or prevent carbon deposits in internal combustion engines has a solvency as defined by aniline point from about 20 to about 115, a volatility (as measured by NOACK) of less than 15%, an oxidative stability (as measured by PDSC) of above 40 minutes and a base oil viscosity of above 2 and below 10 cSt. The lubricant formulation can be formed from a blend of Group III, IV and V lubricants, in particularly polyalphaolefins, alkylated naphthalenes and polar Group V base stocks such as polyol esters. The carbon deposits can be removed from the engine piston by simply running the engine with the lubricant for one required cycle, or can be used continuously in the engine to prevent buildup.

Lubricant for preventing and removing carbon deposits in internal combustion engines

A traction fluid comprising a blend of 2,3-dicyclohexyl-2,3-dimethylbutane (HAD) and 2,3-dicyclohexyl-2,3-dimethylbutane (iso-HAD) is found to have a lower viscosity at low temperatures when compared to a traction fluid having only HAD or only iso-HAD as a base fluid with no compromise to traction coefficient. The traction fluid may comprise additives. The traction fluid usually comprises HAD:isoHAD between about 8:1 to about 1:3. Further, the HAD:iso-HAD traction fluid blend is produced by a method of simultaneous co-production of hydrogenated HAD and hydrogenated iso-HAD from an alpha styrene dimer and an iso-HAD precursor with a yield of about 90% in a method that does not require a purification step.

Traction fluid with improved low temperature properties

Traction fluid additive combination that is usable with any traction fluids base stock is provided. To optimize the traction, low temperature viscosity and shear stability performance, a combination of a polyisobutene and a polymethacrylate may be added to a base oil to obtain a traction fluid with good low temperature viscosity without degrading the shear strength properties of the fluid. To minimize foaming of the traction fluid, a combination of one, two, or more anti-foaming agents may be added to the fluid in addition to a standard additive package.

Systems and methods are described for predicting a remaining oil life in an engine of a vehicle. One or more parameters of the engine can be monitored over a period of time. A hot compartment temperature can be determined from the parameter. A condition of the oil can be determined based on the hot compartment temperature, and the condition of the oil can be displayed.

System and method for predicting remaining oil life in vehicles

A gear or engine oil or other type of lubricant, which effectively reduces churning losses in a dip lubrication system or any lubrication system where churning loss occur has a surface tension less than 28 mN/m and viscosity less than 400 mPa-sec at 25&#xb0; C. (about 500 cSt at 25&#xb0; C.). Formulations include Group I-IV base oil, in combination with an amount of silicone oil effective to decrease the surface tension of the oil, thereby reducing churning losses. When the base oil is prominently Group III, the coefficient of friction of the gear oil is also reduced.

Gear and engine oils with reduced surface tension

Energy loss in a dip lubrication system is reduced by reducing the immersion depth of the gear within a pool of oil. This can be accomplished by increasing the pressure within the dip lubrication system which effectively reduces the flow rate of the oil so that the oil remains separated from the oil pool for a longer period of time thereby reducing the oil level and the immersion depth of the gear within the oil pool. Alternately, this can be accomplished by substituting a higher density gas for air which has the same effect. In a third embodiment the immersed gear includes wind vanes that direct air against the oil pool creating a trough which effectively reduces the immersion depth of the gear within the oil pool.
