Detection and prevention of resource drain from unauthorized wireless device connections is provided. Responsive to receiving of a connection request from a connecting device, a pre-authentication message is sent to the connecting device, the pre-authentication message including a challenge value. A vehicle hash result is computed using a hash function taking the challenge value and the unique identifier of the vehicle as inputs. A device hash result is received from the connecting device. Responsive to a match of the vehicle hash result and the device hash result, additional hardware of the vehicle is activated to perform a secondary authentication of the connecting device. Responsive to a mismatch, authentication of the connecting device is rejected without activation of the additional hardware, thereby avoiding key-off load from the additional hardware in instances where pre-authentication of the connecting device fails.

Unauthorized device resource drain prevention

A computer-implemented method includes predicting, via a predictive analytical model, a time interval associated with a future key-on event for a vehicle. The predictive analytical model is based at least in part on key-on event data. The method includes generating, based at least in part on the predicted time interval, a power mode instruction configured to cause a vehicle Telematics Control Unit (TCU) or Phone as a Key (PaaK) system to change a TCU state from a low energy state to a higher energy state, and transmitting, based on the predicted time interval, the power mode instruction to the vehicle TCU.

Phone as a key predictive vehicle access

A vehicle includes a search system including at least one antenna, a wireless transceiver control module, and a processor. The processor receives a vehicle access request. The processor then sends a search instruction to the wireless transceiver control module to search for an authorized wireless device within a predefined distance of the vehicle. The processor receives a response, to the request, from the wireless transceiver control module indicating search results and a state indicator indicating a state of the search system. When the state indicator indicates a state predefined as corresponding to a final result state for fulfilling the request, the processor utilizes the search results to determine if the access request should be granted and when the state indicator indicates a state predefined as corresponding to an in-progress state, which will result in an improved response at a future time, the processor re-instructs the search and repeats response reception.
