A composite material and method of manufacture involve a mixture of an epoxy resin and a hardener being essentially free of methylenedianiline and vinylcyclohexene dioxide. A fiber reinforcement is located within the matrix. Advantageously, the matrix has a glass transition temperature of at least 250&#xb0; F. dry, the resin has a pre-hardening mixed viscosity of 500&#x2013;1500 cP at 75&#xb0; F., and the composite material has, upon hardening, an interlaminar shear strength of at least 6.5 ksi dry at 75&#xb0; F. and at least 3.5 ksi dry at 250&#xb0; F.

The method for manufacturing solid rocket motors of the present invention comprises placing a mandrel having at least one easily disintegrative solid slot former positioned thereon substantially centrally along the axis of a rocket case, casting uncured solid rocket propellant about the mandrel and the easily disintegrative solid slot former, curing the solid propellant, and removing the mandrel and the easily disintegrative solid slot former from the cured propellant.

A method for manufacturing solid rocket motors comprises placing a mandrel having at least one collapsible solid slot former positioned thereon substantially centrally along the axis of a rocket case, casting uncured solid rocket propellant about the mandrel and the collapsible solid slot former, curing the solid propellant, removing the mandrel and pressurizing the propellant and slot former, causing the slot former to collapse, and easily removed from the cured propellant.

An improved blasting composition comprising from about 13 to 15 weight percent unrefined petroleum wax, from about 15 to 20 weight percent aluminum powder, from about 10 to 52 weight percent sodium perchlorate and from about 10 to 52 weight percent ammonium nitrate. The bond strength between an elastomeric material and a secondary material is improved by applying a coating of isocyanate onto the surface of the elastomeric material prior to bonding the secondary material to the surface of the elastomeric material. The isocyanate is applied to the surface of the elastomeric material by exposing the elastomeric material to an atmosphere containing isocyanate vapor which is substantially uniformly distributed throughout the atmosphere and causing the isocyanate to deposit onto the surface of the elastomeric material. Then casting a second material onto the isocyanate coated surface.

Disclosed is a novel method for cleaning an electrostatic precipitator by directing a stream of cleaning gas through a flexible tube positioned inside the electrostatic precipitator. The stream of gas causing the flexible tube to move randomly directing the stream of gas at the precipitator plates with sufficient force to dislodge particles adhered to such plates.

Method and apparatus for the manufacture of iron oxide particles

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for the production of vapors of a liquid iron compound. The apparatus contains a vertical evaporator element which has an internal heating unit and an apparatus for introducing a regulated amount of the liquid iron compound onto the surface of the evaporator element. The evaporator element being enclosed in a gas tight housing into which a purge gas may be introduced to carry the resultant vapors out of the housing to a reactor chamber. Also disclosed is a method for evaporating a liquid iron compound comprising placing the liquid iron compound onto the surface of the heated evaporator element, thereby causing the iron compound to vaporize and then carrying the vaporized iron compound out of the evaporator with a purge gas. Further disclosed is a method for forming iron oxide using the evaporator.

Liquid vaporizing process for manufacturing iron oxide

A method for making a ferric oxide burning rate enhancing catalyst that results in a smaller particle size high surface area catalyst. The method comprises diluting a gaseous iron-containing compound with an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature such that the rate of oxidation is negligible and oxidizing the diluted gaseous iron-containing compound in an oxygen-containing environment. Ferric oxide particles are formed, suspended in the oxygen-containing environment.

Method for making iron oxide catalyst

A method of making a ferric oxide burning rate catalyst that results in a highly active, finely divided burning rate enhancing catalyst. An iron-containing compound that is capable of vaporization at a temperature below about 500.degree. C. is vaporized. A mixture comprising the vaporized iron-containing compound is combusted with a gas that is capable of supporting combustion in an oxygen environment and does not condense below about 100.degree. C. The ferric oxide burning rate catalyst made by this process is particulary adapted for use in a composite solid rocket propellant. This process provides an ultra pure, highly active, finely divided burning rate catalyst.

Iron oxide catalyst propellant, and method for making same

A highly active, finely divided ferric oxide burning rate catalyst and method for making the same. The catalyst is made by vaporizing an iron-containing compound that is capable of vaporization at a temperature below about 500.degree. C., and is capable of forming ferric oxide when reacted with an oxygen-containing atmosphere at temperatures below about 500.degree. C. The iron-containing compound is then oxidized in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. The ferric oxide burning rate catalyst made by this process is particularly adapted for use in a composite solid rocket propellant. This process provides an ultra pure, highly active, finely divided burning rate catalyst.
