A sporting goods article with a coating on a surface of the article for abrasion resistance and/or a high gloss appearance. The outer layer of the surface is a polymer, wood, metal, non-polymeric ink, non-polymeric colorant, non-polymeric dye, or a combination thereof The coating is a cured ceramer composition. The cured ceramer composition, in its simplest embodiment, is derived from a composition including inorganic oxide particles and a curable organic matrix, with the curable organic matrix including at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least one organofunctional silane monomer coupling agent.

Sporting goods having a ceramer coating

A fastener having a first member and a second member, each member having structured surfaces thereon. The first member has two major surfaces oppositely disposed, at least a portion of each major surface having structured surfaces. The second member has at least one major surface having a structured surface. The first member is fastened to the second member when the two major surfaces of the first member are disposed between the structured surface of the second member and the elements of the structured surfaces bend and twist as well as frictionally adhere during attachment.

Structured surface fastener

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for abrading a workpiece. The apparatus includes an abrasive tape having a microstructured surface on the back face thereof, and a support shoe having a microstructured surface on an exposed pressure face. The two microstructured surfaces intermesh and resist displacement of the abrasive tape with respect to the pressure face as the workpiece is rotatively abraded.

A method of processing a lens is disclosed. A lens blank and a lens block are each provided with a structured surface having a plurality of tapered elements. The lens blank is releasably attached to the lens block by pressing the structured surface of the lens blank against the structured surface of the lens block, followed by subjecting the mounted lens blank to lens processing operations.

Method of processing a lens and means for use in the method

A slip control sheeting can comprise a backing having a first and a second major surface and an array of protrusions on the first major surface. The protrusions can be pyramids with polygonal bases or pyramidal frustums with polygonal bases. Alternatively, the protrusions can comprise posts having non-planar sides and bases on the first major surface wherein the posts taper radially inwardly from their bases to their tops, e.g., cones or conical frustums with circular bases. The sheeting can further comprise at least one of a layer of adhesive on the second major surface, a reinforcing web, or a mechanical fastening component for fastening the backing to a substrate. The sheeting can be made so that it retroreflects less than about 10 percent of a beam of electromagnetic radiation which is incident at any angle to the second major surface, the electromagnetic radiation having any wavelength from about 0.39 microns to about 1,000 microns.

A ski base sheet and ski body are disclosed. The ski base sheet is removable from the ski body and reusable. The ski base sheet is attached to the ski body by using a structured surface. A number of different ski base sheets may be used interchangably on the ski body.

A reclosable mechanical fastener comprising a fastening component having a surface structure by which two such fastening components can become releasably attached. The novel fastening component is a composite of a tough substrate and a fastening layer that forms said surface structure, which fastening layer is formed from a cured oligomeric resin composition having one or more like or different hard segments, one or more like or different soft segments, and one or more like or different monovalent moieties containing a radiation-sensitive, addition-polymerizable, function group. The novel fastener forms stronger linkages than were possible with similar fasteners of the prior art.

Reclosable mechanical fastener based on a composite article

A slip control sheeting comprising a backing having first and second major surfaces with an array of protrusions on the first major surface and at least one of (1) a layer of adhesive on the second major surface and (2) a reinforcing web at least partially embedded in the backing. The protrusions are pyramids with triangular bases having a height between about 3 and 21 mils and the array is defined in part by a pattern of three intersecting sets of parallel grooves formed in the first major surface, the grooves defining three major axes of the sheeting.

A plastic film has a series of grooves the interiors of which are rendered light absorbing to form a light-collimating film.

Light-collimating film

A plurality (e.g. a pair) of misaligned, fastened articles with structured surfaces is disclosed. The structured surfaces have elements which may bend and twist during attachment resulting in a higher peel strength than when the articles are aligned. A method of attaching a pair of articles is also disclosed.
