A method for controlling a printing process is disclosed. The method includes printing a printing material by a printing unit on a basis of data of a prepress stage. A printed result on the printing material is compared with a desired value and a correction value is derived from the comparison. The data of the prepress stage is corrected with the correction value.

Method for controlling a printing process

A method for printing on a substrate is disclosed. In an embodiment of the method, the method includes printing a small print control mark of a printed color in a print zone of the substrate and printing a large print control mark of the printed color in the print zone of the substrate. A measurement value of the small print control mark and a measurement value of the large print control mark is detected by a sensor. A deviation between the measurement value of the small print control mark and the measurement value of the large print control mark is determined and an actual value of a print parameter of the printed color is corrected based on the deviation.

A control station for a printing press, includes at least one true color monitor for displaying at least one soft proof serving as a color reference for printed copies printed during the printing process, and at least one standard light source for at least partial illuminating the control station to allow visual comparison, independent of room lighting, of a printed copy with the soft proof serving as the color reference. The luminosity produced by the at least one standard light source is variable, so that the luminosity produced by the at least one standard light source can be adjusted to match a brightness achievable on the true color monitor to match a contrast achievable on the true color monitor during the display of the soft proof.

A method and apparatus for generating a color reference for an image to be printed for visualizing the same on a true-color monitor is disclosed. Lower-resolution image data are generated from high-resolution raster data for the image to be printed which are obtained from page description data for the image to be printed. The lower-resolution data are converted into display data which serve as color reference for the image to be printed and which can be visualized on a true-color monitor. An actual transmission characteristic is ascertained. The actual transmission characteristic ascertained is compared with a specified (desired) transmission characteristic, where, on the basis of this comparison, a correction curve is calculated which is required to arrive at the desired transmission characteristic starting with the actual transmission characteristic. The display data are ascertained using the calculated correction curve.

Method and apparatus for generating a color reference for a print image

The present invention concerns measures for the space-optimized determination of printing-related measured values. With the aid of a tone value and/or color gradient in a control patch and a suitable measuring device, it is possible to obtain, in a smaller amount of space, adequate or even detailed information about the printing process. Correcting values necessary for the automatic control of the printing operation can be determined on the basis of the information thus obtained, which can be also be continuously acquired due to the space-optimized tone value and/or color gradients.
