An instrument holder system comprises a guide body comprising first and second ends, and a passage extending between the first and second ends along an axis to receive an instrument, and a mechanical or electro-mechanical measuring device comprising an attachment body for coupling to the guide body, a probe to extend into a trajectory of the passage to contact the instrument and generate positional data, and, optionally, a control device coupled to the probe to receive the positional data. A method of determining a position of an instrument relative to an instrument holder comprises inserting the instrument into a passage of the instrument holder, moving the instrument into contact with a sensing element, moving a tip of the instrument out of the instrument holder to cause movement of the sensing element, and correlating movements of the sensing element to distances the tip extends out of the instrument holder.

A system or method may be used to provide registration, calibration, or tracking of patient anatomy using a camera and a robotic surgical system. The camera may include a structured light camera. The camera may be used to acquire an image of patient anatomy or a reference object. A method may include determining a distance (e.g., from the camera) or a location of the patient anatomy or the reference object. The robotic surgical system may include a robotic arm that may be configured to move based on the distance or location of the patient anatomy or the reference object.

Systems and methods may be used for registering a force input on a portion of a surgical robot, for example using a force sensor of the surgical robot. The force input may correspond to a control command. The control command may generate a change in a control mode of the surgical robot, validate a step of a workflow in planning or navigation software, or the like. A visual indication may be provided, for example using a light of the surgical robot. The visual indication may indicate that the control command has been identified or executed.

The feedback component includes light-up cap, a conducting component, a magnetic component and an RFID tag. Methods of registering a fiducial marker fastener, such as with robotic surgical systems, include manipulating a probe to align with a signal-producing feedback component attached to or integrated with the fastener, and engaging the feedback component with the probe to activate a sensory feedback indicator.

A system and method for tracking an object within a surgical field are described. A system may include a lighting component to illuminate a surgical field, and a camera device to capture an image of a tracked device within the surgical field. The system may include a rotational component configured to rotate with respect to the lighting component. The camera device may couple to the rotational component to rotate with respect to the lighting component, such as in response to an obstruction of a tracked object being detected.
