A test system for examining a hollow body, in particular a cylinder bore in an engine block, comprises a measuring apparatus comprising an elongate body and a plurality of sensors which are connected to the body and are set up to carry out a distance measurement. The test system also comprises electronic control means which are set up to move the measuring apparatus into a hollow body to be examined and to determine an internal diameter of the hollow body on the basis of distance measurement data from the sensors. In order to examine hollow bodies of different diameters, at least some of the sensors are in the form of movable sensors which can be moved relative to the elongate body of the measuring apparatus. The electronic control means are also set up to select a measuring position of the movable sensors relative to the elongate body on the basis of a hollow body to be examined. A calibration station is provided and the electronic control means are set up to carry out a calibration process for the movable sensors. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

Test system and method for determining an internal diameter of a hollow body

A sensor device for the inspection of the surface of a cylindrical hollow enclosure having at least one sensor unit set up for an optical confocal distance measurement. The at least one sensor unit has an elongated shape and exhibits an external optical system, through which a measurement device in which light can be emitted and received, is disposed transversely to a longitudinal axis of this sensor unit. The sensor device additionally comprises a movement mechanism, which is adapted to move the at least one sensor unit in one direction of motion into and out of a cylindrical hollow enclosure to be inspected. Control means are provided for measuring raisings of a surface of the cylindrical hollow enclosure and are adapted to control the at least one sensor unit for carrying out a first distance measurement, during which the measuring direction relative to the direction of motion is at an angle from 20&#xb0; to 85&#xb0;, and to control the at least one sensor unit for carrying out a second distance measurement, during which the measuring direction relative to the direction of motion is at an angle from 95&#xb0; to 160&#xb0;. To this end, the measuring direction of the at least one sensor unit can be at an angle between 95&#xb0; and 175&#xb0; relative to the longitudinal axis of said sensor unit, wherein this sensor unit is mounted on a rotatable bearing such that one and the same sensor unit can be moved to different positions of rotation for the first distance measurement and for the second distance measurement. Alternatively, the at least one sensor unit can comprise at least one first sensor unit and at least one second sensor unit, the first sensor unit being formed and linked with the movement device in such a manner that its measuring direction relative to the direction of motion is at an angle from 20&#xb0; to 85&#xb0;, and the second sensor unit being formed and linked with the movement device in such a manner that its measuring direction relative to the direction of motion is at an angle from 95&#xb0; to 160&#xb0;. In addition, a corresponding method is disclosed.

Sensor device and method of inspecting the surface of a cylindrical hollow enclosure

An examining device for examining inner walls of a hollow body comprises: a rod-shaped camera device designed to record an image transversely with respect to its longitudinal axis; adjustment means for moving the camera device into and out of the hollow body; a grazing light illumination device for illuminating the inner walls and having emission directions that are transverse with respect to receiving directions, from which the camera device receives light from the illuminated inner walls, wherein an angle between the emission and receiving directions is between 45&#xb0; and 135&#xb0;; diameter determination means for determining an inner diameter of a cavity of the hollow body and comprising a light source and optical measuring means. Furthermore, a corresponding method for examining inner walls is described.
