A pipe conveyed extendable well logging assembly includes a deployment system for extending and retracting a well logging tool relative to the pipe while downhole. The logging tool may be releasably latched to the pipe, and may include position sensors for position feedback and depth correction.

A system for measuring one or more physical properties of cementitious material is operable to cure a slurry of cementitious material under desired conditions of temperature and pressure. Particularly, the system may be operable to cure the slurry under a temperature and pressure expected to be experienced downhole. The system may also be used to determine properties of the cured cementitious material, such as maximum yield strength and shear bond strength at the desired temperature and pressure. The desired conditions of temperature and pressure may be applied both during curing and testing of the cementitious material.

A perforating gun gravitational orientation system includes a perforating gun and a swivel device connected to the perforating gun to permit rotation of the perforating gun within casing, and the perforating gun spaced apart from the casing by the swivel device. Another perforating gun gravitational orientation system includes the swivel device having an axis of rotation which is spaced apart from a center of gravity of the perforating gun. Yet another perforating gun gravitational orientation system includes the swivel device having an axis of rotation which is spaced apart from a center axis of the perforating gun.

A surge chamber assembly () for use in a wellbore includes a housing () having one or more openings (), a surge chamber () and a combustion chamber (). The openings () provide fluid communication between the exterior () of the housing () and the surge chamber (). A sleeve () is slidably positioned within the housing () and has a first position wherein fluid communication through the openings () is prevented and a second position wherein fluid communication through the openings () is allowed. A combustible element () is positioned in the combustion chamber () such that combusting the combustible element () generates pressure in the combustion chamber () that actuates the sleeve () from the first position to the second position.

Surge chamber assembly and method for perforating in dynamic underbalanced conditions

A perforating safety system. A perforating safety system includes a detonation transfer interrupter with a device which decreases an axial separation between detonation transfer components after installation of the interrupter in the well. Another perforating safety system includes a perforating gun and firing head installed together in the well, and an interrupter having a device which increases a separation between detonation transfer components in the well to thereby prevent transfer of detonation from the firing head to the perforating gun. Yet another perforating safety system includes a firing head positioned at a distal end of a perforating assembly when installed in the well, and an interrupter having a device which decreases a separation between detonation transfer components after installation of the interrupter in the well.

Perforating safety system

A platform is used to deliver a tool down a hole by controlling the flow of fluid through and around the platform. The platform has a top surface for receiving the tool. The platform also has a bottom surface to provide guidance through and resistance to the flow of fluid. The lower surface of the platform can be engineered to steer the platform against an inner wall of the casing. This slows the descent by adding mechanical friction to its descent. The lower surface can also be engineered to add a predetermined amount of resistance to the flow of the well fluid across it. A stop on the casing already in place in the well stops the descent of the tool at a desired depth. Once the tool is no longer needed, a fishing tool can be lowered from the same crane to retrieve the tool and platform. Use of a crane substantially decreases the cost of the operation compared to the need for a rig.

Bi-directional explosive transfer subassembly and method for use of same

A detonation transfer subassembly for coupling two detonation activated tools in a work sting such that the work string may be severed between the two detonation activated tools without risk of a detonation. The detonation transfer subassembly comprises first and second explosive carrying members having a detonation transfer member disposed therebetween. The detonation transfer member defines a longitudinal passageway therein. A firing pin is disposed within the longitudinal passageway. The firing pin has a first position proximate the first explosive carrying member and a second position proximate the second explosive carrying member. The firing pin is propellable from the first position to the second position following a detonation within the first explosive carrying member such that the firing pin impacts an explosive disposed within the second explosive carrying member, thereby transferring detonation from the first explosive carrying member to the second explosive carrying member.

Detonation transfer subassembly and method for use of same

An internally oriented perforating apparatus and associated method of perforating provide increased reliability in orienting perforating charges to shoot in desired directions in a well. In a described example, a perforating gun includes a tubular gun carrier, multiple perforating charges, multiple charge mounting structures and multiple rotating supports. The rotating supports are attached between the charge mounting structures, or at least between the perforating charges.

Internally oriented perforating apparatus

A stinger is fabricated with an orientating key. The stinger is lowered into a wellbore and remains atop a downhole assembly. The angular orientation of stinger with respect to the downhole assemble is also adjustable prior to entering the wellbore. The stinger acts as a guide for coupling an alignment skirt. The alignment skirt is fabricated with an alignment slot for receiving the orientation key. The alignment skirt is lowered onto the stinger and, as inclines on the skirt engage the orientation key, the alignment skirt is rotated until the alignment slot receives the orientation key. The alignment skirt and stinger are then fully coupled. The angular orientation of the orientation key can be determined by coupling an alignment skirt to the stinger, where a directional tool is affixed to the alignment skirt and performs a directional survey. In subsequent runs in the wellbore, the angular orientation of a perforating assembly can be adjusted in order to align the direction of perforating charges with the gun assembly, with a preferred vertical plane on the formation. This is accomplished by orienting (rotating) the alignment skirt and stinger on the gun assembly with respect to the orientation of the perforating charges and the orientation of the preferred vertical plane of the formation.

Orienting system for modular guns

A tubular casing section for a subterranean well has side wall apertures therein which are temporally sealed with plug structures. The plugged casing section is positioned within a wellbore at a selected subterranean formation and cemented in place within the wellbore. The plugs are removed, such as by melting, fracturing, shearing or corrosion, and a stimulation tool is lowered into the casing and operated to pierce through the cement lining at the unplugged casing side wall apertures and into the surrounding subterranean formation to establish communication between the formation and the interior of the casing.

Pre-drilled casing apparatus and associated methods for completing a subterranean well

Methods are provided which permit pressure tested multiple perforating gun modules to be interconnected into gun assemblies, without disturbing any pressure-bearing seals of the modules. Prior to assembling the gun assembly, the seals of the modules are pressure tested. The pressure tested modules are then connected to each other without disconnecting or otherwise breaking any of the pressure-bearing seals of the modules.
