According to one example, an electrical device is provided comprising an input configured to receive power from at least one power supply, an output configured to provide the power to at least one load, a first memory configured to store data temporarily, a second memory, the second memory being non-volatile memory, and at least one control device configured to acquire data indicative of at least one parameter of the power responsive to a sample condition being met, store the acquired data in the first memory, determine that a fault condition exists based on the acquired data, the fault condition being indicative of a fault of one or more electrical-device components, and store the acquired data in the second memory responsive to determining that the fault condition exists.

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system includes a processor, an input coupled to an AC power source to receive input AC power, a converter circuit coupled to the input and configured to convert an input AC voltage to a DC voltage, an energy-storage component, a load output configured to provide output power derived from the DC voltage, and a radio-frequency circuit configured to receive a radio-frequency signal. The radio-frequency circuit includes an antenna and a memory. The memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive configuration data including a first UPS identifier from a component of the radio-frequency circuit. The instructions further cause the processor to compare the first UPS identifier to a second UPS identifier stored on a memory of the UPS system. The instructions further cause the processor to configure operation of the UPS system based on the configuration data.

Uninterruptible Power Supply with wirelessly configurable operational parameters

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a UPS comprising a delta transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding, the primary winding coupled between an input and an output and the secondary winding having a first end and a second end, a delta inverter coupled between a DC bus and the secondary winding, a short circuit control circuit selectively coupled between the first end and the second end of the secondary winding, a main inverter coupled between the DC bus and the output, and a controller configured to control, in a bypass mode of operation, the short circuit control circuit to couple the first end of the secondary winding to the second end such that the secondary winding is short circuited and unconditioned output AC power, derived from the input AC power via the primary winding, is provided to the output.

A method for reducing a need for power in a backup mode of operation in a data center includes receiving a first alert from an uninterruptible power supply indicating that the uninterruptible power supply is operating in a first mode, wherein the first mode includes deriving power from a stored energy source, identifying at least one host server configured to receive power from the uninterruptible power supply in the first mode, suspending execution of at least one virtual machine on the at least one host server, receiving a second alert from the uninterruptible power supply indicating that the uninterruptible power supply is operating in a second mode, wherein the second mode includes deriving power from one of a mains power source and a generator, and resuming execution of the at least one virtual machine.

Systems and methods for reducing energy storage requirements in a data center

Systems and methods of controlling an uninterruptible power supply are provided. The uninterruptible power supply includes an input to receive input power, and an output to provide power to a load. The uninterruptible power supply also includes an inverter, a bypass switch, and a controller. The inverter is coupled with the input and with the output, and the bypass switch can provide the input power at the output in a bypass mode of operation. The controller is coupled with the inverter and the bypass switch. The controller can activate the bypass switch in a first configuration to provide the input power at the output during a first half of a cycle of an input voltage waveform, and can activate the bypass switch in a second configuration to provide the input power at the output during a second half of the cycle. With the inverter active during bypass operation, the inverter can more quickly provide output power upon the loss of bypass power, and can provide near unity power factor correction and harmonic distortion correction.
