The claimed invention refers to the development of rubber recipes to improve essential properties related to correlated rubber compounds. Silica gel is added to the rubber compound as a reinforcing agent, partially replacing some of the precipitated silica. The use of silica gel for the pneumatic market provides improved tear resistance, elongation and adhesion performance, and improves adhesion of the tire on wet surfaces.

The present invention refers to a stable sodium and iron silicate solution that has a weight ratio of SiOto NaO from 1.5 to 2.5 and a total percentage of solids, expressed by the sum of SiOand NaO, from 20% to 55%. Said solution also has a soluble iron content, expressed by Fe, from 0.1% to 7%, and a water content from 38% to 79.9%. The present invention also refers to the process for preparing said stable solution of sodium and iron silicate, which comprises the steps of: (a) providing a siliceous material containing iron; (b) submitting said siliceous material containing iron to a hydrothermal treatment with caustic soda under high temperature and controlled pressure; and (c) filtering said reacted solution to separate the reacted portion of the hydrothermal treatment from the unreacted portion. Additionally, the present invention refers to the uses of said stable sodium and iron silicate solution.

A method and composition are provided for backfilling the annular gap created as a tunnel boring machine advances through the ground. The fill material is comprised of two components that are combined and mixed together just prior to entering the annular gap. The first component is non-cement slurry consisting of a fluidized bed combustion ash such as coal ash. The second component consists of an alkali silicate such as sodium silicate. Additionally, ordinary Portland cement and/or metakaolin can be added to the grout composition.

Porous amorphous silica can be obtained from siliceous plant matter containing non-siliceous inorganic substances. The siliceous plant matter is soaked in an aqueous solution which includes a chelating agent. The chelating agent is present in an amount which helps to extract at least some of the non-siliceous inorganic matter. The aqueous solution is then separated from the siliceous plant matter. Beneficial properties are imparted to the siliceous plant matter by controlling the amount of at least one preselected non-siliceous inorganic substance in the siliceous plant matter. At the end of the process, the siliceous plant matter is heat treated in the presence of oxygen at a temperature to produce the resulting amorphous silica having the beneficial properties.

Embodiments provide slurries of water and zeolite. These slurries have beneficial properties when mixed with asphalt. These beneficial properties may include extension of the asphalt as well as a decrease in the temperature used to process the cement. In some embodiments additional additives are included, such as anti-strip amines. Methods of making and using the slurries, as well as cement mixtures incorporating the slurries are also included herein.

Embodiments of the invention provide method for preparing mixtures of natural or artificial zeolite with at least one of recycled asphalt shingles and recycled asphalt pavement. The prepared mixtures are also within the scope of the invention. Mixtures prepared as described herein may be useful, for example, for mixture with hot mix asphalt and cold patch asphalt.
