This invention provides improvements in brassieres which assure better support of and conformance to the wearer by flattening and streamlining the sides of the breast of a full-figured woman through the application of side panels of rigid or elastomeric fabrics. Each side panel includes a fabric component cut in the direction of the pull so that stress created when the side panels are tightened is evenly distributed along the side of the breast cup contiguous with the panels.

A brassiere including a pair of bust supporting cups having an outer panel means and an inner segment, an underbust band assembly, a pair of back band portions, and a pair of shoulder straps connected to the cups and to the back band portions. The generally crescent-shaped inner segments extend from the top of each cup to the lower central area of the cup such that when strain is exerted from the force of the breasts, the inner segments are activated and function to reshape the breast and avoid distorting and misshaping the outer cup panel means.

A brassiere wherein left and right bust cups are fashioned from upper and lower fabric panels with the upper panels being connected to a ring element and the lower marginal edges of the cups being connected by an elastic member. Each cup is provided with an elongated petal shaped opening in the upper portion thereof which extends generally upwardly and outwardly a selected distance from the connector element.

Breast cups having various types of cuts or configurations are initially molded from basically flat sheets of flexible fabric on a bust cup mold having a prescribed configuration. The resulting, three-dimensional molded fabric cup then is cut by a die having a plurality of cutting surfaces, at least a portion of the outermost cutting surfaces serving as guides for alignment with the outer perimeter of the molded cup and a portion of the cutting surfaces cutting the molded breast cup to the desired shape resulting in a breast cup having a size and configuration differing from that of a bust cup initially molded.
