A system and process that includes a multiband antenna as may be used in mobile communications devices. The multiband antenna includes a feed port coupled to each of a first radiating portion and a second radiating portion. Each of the first and second radiating portions defines a respective resonant bandwidth. The multiband antenna also includes at least one adjustable tuning circuit disposed between separate and displaced radiating segments of a respective one of the first and second radiating portions. Adjustment of the tuning circuit alters a corresponding resonant bandwidth allowing the corresponding resonant bandwidth to be tuned independently of the other resonant bandwidth and without affecting performance of the other resonant bandwidth. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Antenna tuning for multiband operation

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, at least one wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and at least one satellite positioning signal receiver carried by the portable housing. The device may also include an antenna assembly carried by the portable housing. The antenna assembly may include a base conductor having a pair of shorted antenna feed points defined therein and coupled to the at least one wireless transceiver and the at least one satellite positioning receiver, and a first conductor aim extending outwardly from the base conductor. The antenna assembly may also include a second conductor arm also extending outwardly from the base conductor. The second conductor arm may include a proximal conductor portion adjacent the base conductor, a distal conductor portion, and an inductor-capacitor circuit coupling the proximal and distal conductor portions.

Mobile wireless communications device including antenna assembly having shorted feed points and inductor-capacitor circuit and related methods

A mobile wireless communications device may include a housing carrying a circuit board and wireless communications circuitry. An antenna assembly is carried by the housing and coupled to the wireless communications circuitry. The antenna assembly may include an electrically conductive base having a rectangular shape with opposing first and second ends and opposing first and second sides extending between the first and second ends. The electrically conductive base may have an elongate slot therein extending within a medial portion thereof and contained within the opposing first and second ends and the opposing first and second sides. The antenna assembly also may include an electrically conductive feed arm extending outwardly from the first side of the electrically conductive base adjacent the first end thereof. The electrically conductive feed arm may have a distal end with an antenna feed defined thereon.

Mobile wireless communications device having antenna assembly with electrically conductive base enclosing an elongate slot and associated methods

A mobile communications device having a patch antenna which has defined therein at least two slots each having two or more parts. The at least two slots may include an L-shaped slot and a C-shaped slot, wherein the slots can be open or closed. The L-shaped slot may be an open-slot projecting into the patch antenna from the edge. Ground and signal connections may be at the edge of the patch on either side of the L-shaped slot. The C-shaped slot may be nested within the L-shaped slot.

Multi-slot antenna and mobile device

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, at least one wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and at least one satellite positioning signal receiver carried by the portable housing. The mobile wireless communications device may also include an antenna assembly carried by the portable housing. The antenna assembly may include a base electrical conductor having a pair of antenna feed points defined therein and coupled to the at least one wireless transceiver and the at least one satellite signal positioning receiver. The antenna assembly may also include first and second conductor arms being spaced apart, parallel, and extending outwardly from the base electrical conductor.

Mobile wireless communications device including antenna assembly having spaced apart parallel conductor arms and related methods

A mobile wireless communication device may include a multiple-band antenna on an antenna carrier and connected to a wireless transceiver. The multiple-band antenna may include an elongate base conductor having opposing first and second ends and opposing first and second sides extending between the first and second ends. The elongate base conductor may have a first L-shaped slot with a proximal end opening outwardly at the first side of the elongate base conductor adjacent the first end thereof and having a distal end adjacent a medial portion of the elongate base conductor. The elongate base conductor may have a second L-shaped slot with a proximal end opening outwardly at the first side of the elongate base conductor adjacent the medial portion thereof and having a distal end adjacent the second end of the elongate base conductor. The distal end of the second L-shaped slot may extend closer to the second end of the elongate base conductor than the distal end of the first L-shaped slot.
