A radar system may include: a transceiver configured to transmit a first radar signal into a field of view and to receive a second radar signal from the field of view; a processing unit configured to process the second radar signal, to generate a detection track, given by a signal amplitude distribution as a function of distance from the transceiver, and to detect presence of targets in the field of view from the generated detection track; and a marker located in the field of view, wherein the marker is arranged in a fixed position relative to the transceiver and wherein the marker is configured to receive the first radar signal and to transmit a diagnostic radar signal toward the transceiver as a function of the first radar signal. The processing unit may be further configured to store a predetermined diagnostic track, including at least a characteristic distance and signal amplitude.

Radar systems and diagnostic methods thereof

A radar system is described comprising a transceiver configured to cyclically transmit a first radar signal in a field of view and to cyclically receive a second radar signal from the field of view, and a processing unit configured to process the second radar signal to generate a detection track and detect the presence of a target in the field of view from the detection track. The radar system comprises a marker that can be placed in the field of view and is configured to emit a predetermined reflection signal when impinged upon by said first radar signal and send said predetermined reflection signal to the transceiver. The processing unit is further configured to store a predetermined diagnostic trace, and check whether the predetermined diagnostic track is present in the detection track to thereby determine whether the second radar signal contains the predefined reflection signal and, if not, to indicate a malfunction in the radar system.

Radar system and its diagnostic method

A multiple scalable radar on chip (SROC) based system in a multi-array configuration; may include: a first SROC; and a second SROC. The first SROC may include a ramp generator, a fractional-N PLL synthesizer, a frequency multiplier, a power amplifier, 'Y' number of transmitter chains, 'Z' number of receiver chains, and a receiver section. The second SROC may include a ramp generator, a fractional-N PLL synthesizer, a frequency multiplier, a power amplifier, &#x2018;Y&#x2019; number of transmitter chains, &#x2018;Z&#x2019; number of receiver chains, and a receiver section. The ramp generator of the first SROC may be configured to drive the fractional-N PLL synthesizer of the second SROC. The fractional-N PLL synthesizer of the second SROC may be configured to produce radio frequency (RF) ramp signals to drive both the first and second SROCs. &#x2018;Y&#x2019; and &#x2018;Z&#x2019; may represent positive integers.

Multiple radars on chip-based systems

A system () and a method for finding the direction (&#x3b8;) of a target () in a detection plane, e.g. the azimuthal plane. The system comprises a plurality of transceivers () which transmit continuous-wave radio signals () oriented in distinct main directions of transmission () and receive a return radio signal () reflected from a target (), wherein the transceivers have partially overlapping angular fields of view. A controller () analyzes the transmitted and return signals by calculating signal amplitudes associated with the return signals and determining the direction (&#x3b8;) of the target as a direction of a mean signal vector obtained from signal vectors having as a modulus the signal amplitudes of respective transceivers.
