New pharmaceutical compositions containing a calcitonin as active principle and suitable fop opal administration in the form of perbuccal and sublingual tablets ape described, in which the active principle is homogenized with a mixture of solid excipients, said excipients consisting of a diluent, a lubricant, a disintegrating agent in the case of sublingual tablets, and a binder in the case of perbuccal tablets. Said compositions enable the same pattern of hematic levels to be obtained fop the same unit dose as obtainable by conventional intramuscular administration.

Pharmaceutical compositions and dosage forms for the oral administration

A freeze-dried pharmaceutical composition for parenteral administration which includes a therapeutically effective amount of a calcitonin, as the active ingredient, and human albumin. The injectable solution which is obtained by dissolving the freeze-dried composition in a physiologically acceptable solvent is also described.

Pharmaceutical compositions for parenteral use containing a calcitonin

New compositions containing a calcitonin as the active ingredient are described which are suitable for the intrarectal administration as soft gelatin capsules or microenemas, wherein the active principle, optionally admixed with a stabilizer, is dissolved in a liquid vehicle consisting of: (a) at least 70% by weight of a polyethylene or a polypropylene glycol or a mixture of polyethylene or polypropylene glycols with different molecular weights, having the consistency of a homogeneous fluid at room temperature, and (b) less than 15% by weight of a buffer in a pH range of from 4.5 to 6.5, and optionally (c) less than 15% by weight of an alcohol of 2 to 6 carbon atoms containing two or more hydroxy groups. The new compositions, which do not contain any absorption aid, give calcitonin plasma levels comparable to a conventional intramuscular administration.
