Embodiments include methods for a network node of a 3GPP RAN. Such methods include determining a configuration that enables a UE to steer the UE's traffic between the 3GPP RAN and a WLAN without receiving a traffic steering command from the 3GPP RAN. The configuration includes a forward traffic steering configuration comprising a first plurality of thresholds/conditions for which the UE, when connected to 3GPP RAN, can initiate steering at least some of the UE's traffic from 3GPP RAN to WLAN; and a backward traffic steering configuration comprising a second plurality of thresholds/conditions for which the UE, when connected to WLAN, can initiate steering at least some of the UE's traffic from WLAN to 3GPP RAN. The backward traffic steering configuration includes threshold(s)/condition(s) based on different values of a same parameter as threshold(s)/condition(s) of the forward traffic steering configuration. The configuration is sent to the UE in a single message.

Traffic steering from a first access network to a second access network

A method performed in an entity for transmitting in a communications system. The method comprises assessing a channel to be available for transmission by establishing an on-going transmission to have a received signal strength such as to allow simultaneous transmission in view of a first clear channel assessment threshold; establishing type of transmission of the on-going transmission; and determining, based on the established type of transmission, whether to transmit or to defer transmitting. A corresponding entity, computer programs and computer program products are also provided.

Method and entity for transmitting in a communications system

Managing a plurality of non-coordinated radio access networks (RANs) connected to the core network is provided by acquiring information indicating that a wireless communication device is connected to a base station in a first of the plurality of RANs, and information indicating a location of the wireless communication device, acquiring information identifying at least a second of the plurality of RANs to which the wireless communication device may connect based on the location of the wireless communication device, and information indicating available frequencies in the second RAN via which frequencies the wireless communication device is allowed to access a network being accessible by the mobility management node, said network being operated by an operator different from those operating the first and second RANs, and delivering the information identifying the second RAN and the information indicating available frequencies in the second RAN to the wireless communication device.

Managing non-coordinated radio access networks

The invention relates to methods and devices for managing a plurality of non-coordinated radio access networks. In an aspect, a method of a mobility management node is provided for managing a plurality of non-coordinated radio access networks (RANs) in a wireless communication network. The method comprises receiving, from a base station of a first of the plurality of RANs, information indicating frequencies available in the first RAN for accessing a network served by the mobility management node, acquiring information identifying a base station of a second of the plurality of RANs, said network being operated by an operator different from those operating the first and second RANs; and transmitting, to the base station of the second RAN, the information indicating the frequencies available in the first RAN for accessing said network.

The proposed technology generally relates to interworking and integration of different radio access networks, and more specifically to carrier aggregation between different radio access networks such as a cellular radio access network, e.g. a 3GPP network, on one hand and a WLAN network such as Wi-Fi, on the other hand. Such tight interworking/aggregation of radio access networks puts new requirements on efficient handling of authentication and security aspects. The proposed technology provides methods, and corresponding network nodes, computer programs, carriers comprising such computer programs, and computer program products as well as arrangements to support carrier aggregation between different radio access networks.

Interworking and integration of different radio access networks

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a network-instructed handover of a wireless device from a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) to a Radio Access Network (RAN) of another Radio Access Technology (RAT), e.g., a 3Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) or 3Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) RAT. In one embodiment, a WLAN access node determines that a handover of a wireless device from the WLAN to another RAN of a different RAT is to be performed and transmits a handover instruction to the wireless device that instructs the wireless device to perform a handover from the WLAN to a RAN of a different RAT. In this manner, the WLAN access node is able to steer the wireless device from the WLAN to a RAN of a different RAT.

Network-instructed handover from WLAN to another radio access network

The teachings presented herein disclose example methods and apparatuses for differentiating charging with respect to an aggregated radio access. In this context, an 'aggregated radio access' aggregates two or more different radio accesses, such as two or more different carriers, for conveying user traffic between a wireless communication network and a user device. The ability to discount charges, apply premium billing, or to otherwise track and bill usage at a granularity level below the aggregated radio access&#x2014;i.e., on a per access basis&#x2014;allows the involved network operator(s) to offer discounts, apply premium pricing, etc.

Method and apparatus for charging differentiation in a wireless communication network using aggregated radio access

There is provided a method in a node in a first access network, the method comprising sending () a first set of thresholds and/or conditions to a terminal, the first set of thresholds and/or conditions defining situations in which (a) the terminal should send a measurement report to the first access network with respect to a second access network, or (b) the terminal should connect to the second access network and/or steer at least some traffic to the second access network; and sending () a second set of thresholds and/or conditions to the terminal, the second set of thresholds and/or conditions defining situations in which, (c) the terminal should send a measurement report to the first access network regarding at least the second access network or (d) the terminal should disconnect from the second access network and/or connect to the first access network and/or steer at least some traffic to the first access network.

Embodiments include methods performed by a network node in a wireless communication network. The node is part of a first BSS that is one of a plurality of BSS in a Mobility Domain (MD) that supports a Fast BSS Transition procedure. Such methods include transmitting one or more Fast Initial Link Setup Discovery (FD) frames. Each FD frame includes an identifier of the first MD, which enables receiving devices to determine, without receiving any non-FD frames from the network node, whether to associate with the network node via the Fast BSS Transition procedure. Such methods include associating with a first device through the Fast BSS procedure, wherein the first wireless communication device was previously associated with one of the BSS in the MD. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by devices, as well as network nodes and devices configured to perform such methods.

Wireless communications involving a fast initial link setup, FILS, discovery frame for network signaling

The invention relates to a method for operating an entity of a WLAN network. The method comprises the following steps. First, an access request is received from a subscriber of a mobile communications network, wherein the access request is based on a mobile network identity used in the mobile communications network to authenticate the subscriber. Then, from an authentication entity configured to authenticate a subscriber in the mobile communications network, radio resource information is received for the subscriber which comprises subscriber specific information how radio resources of a radio network part of the mobile communications network should be used. Furthermore, a radio resource usage of the subscriber in the WLAN network is determined taking into account the received radio resource information.
