A system configured to design a customized implant includes a cutting tool, a tracker, and design software. The cutting tool is configured to resect bone from an anatomical bone along a cutting path, thereby creating a contoured bone surface. The tracker is configured to track at least a portion of the cutting path and store the at least a portion of the cutting path in a memory. The design software is configured to design an implant having a contoured implant surface that matches the contoured bone surface based at least in part on the stored cutting path.

Customized implant and method

The present invention discloses methods and apparatus for fostering wireless communication to and from orthopedic implants. Cuff and bandage devices provide a means of supporting a device which coordinates and optimizes communication with orthopedic implants. The devices support methods which can provide feedback to a user to optimize the signal strength and signal to noise aspects of wireless connections to and from orthopedic implants.

Methods and apparatus for alignment of sensor communication devices with implanted bone healing sensors

An orthopaedic prosthesis assembly includes a first prosthetic component, a second prosthetic component, and a fastener. The first prosthetic component includes a threaded bore. The second prosthetic component includes an opening and a threaded inner wall that extends inwardly from the opening. The fastener includes a first axial section having a first plurality of threads engaged with the threaded inner wall the second prosthetic component, and a second axial section having a second plurality of threads engaged with the threaded bore of the first prosthetic component to secure the first prosthetic component to the second prosthetic component.

An orthopedic prosthesis assembly includes a first prosthetic component, a second prosthetic component, and a fastener. The first prosthetic component includes a threaded bore. The second prosthetic component includes an opening and a threaded inner wall that extends inwardly from the opening. The fastener includes a first axial section having a first plurality of threads engaged with the threaded inner wall the second prosthetic component, and a second axial section having a second plurality of threads engaged with the threaded bore of the first prosthetic component to secure the first prosthetic component to the second prosthetic component.

An orthopedic prosthesis assembly includes a first prosthetic component, a second prosthetic component, a retainer, and a fastener and allows the removal of the first prosthetic component without having to remove the second prosthetic component from an intramedullary canal of a patient's bone. The fastener is received in an aperture of the first prosthetic component and the retainer is configured to engage the aperture of the first prosthetic component such that a part of the fastener is secured within the aperture. A rod of the fastener is configured to advance along the longitudinal axis through the first prosthetic component into the second prosthetic component. The end of the rod of the fastener is threaded into a threaded bore defined in the second prosthetic component.

An orthopaedic surgical instrument includes a cup including an outer surface having an opening positioned on a component-engaging side and an inner wall extending from the opening of the outer surface to a back wall. The inner wall having a plurality of stepped surfaces facing the component-engaging side. Each of the plurality of stepped surfaces is sized to receive a platform of a tibial tray.

Tibial impaction guide surgical instrument and method of using same

A modular orthopaedic implant system has first, second and third implant components. Two of the components have bores and the third component has a post. The third component can be assembled with either the first or second components with the post received in the respective bore of the other component. When assembled, the length of the post received within the bore of one of the components is greater than the length of the post received within the bore of the other component. The fatigue strength of the assembly with a greater length of the post received within the bore is greater, and this assembly can be used where such greater fatigue strength is needed and the other assembly can be used where a lesser fatigue strength is needed. Since the third component that is used in both assemblies may be the same, inventory may be reduced.

Modular knee prosthesis system for use with different load requirements

An implantable orthopaedic knee prosthesis assembly includes a femoral component, a stem component, a fastener, and a retention device. The femoral component is configured to be implanted into a distal end of a femur of a patient and includes a stem post having a proximal tapered bore, a distal passageway, and a threaded passageway connecting the proximal tapered bore and the distal passageway. The stem component is configured to taper fit to the femoral component and includes a bore formed therein extending proximally and a threaded aperture defined at a proximal end of the bore. The head of the fastener is configured to be received in the distal passageway, whereas the proximal end of the shaft of the fastener is configured to be positioned in the threaded aperture. The retention device is received in the threaded passageway and prevents the proximal end of the fastener from reentering the threaded passageway.

Prosthetic components with secondary retention

A method for joint line assembly of an orthopaedic prosthesis assembly includes inserting a tapered post of a first prosthetic component into a tapered bore of a second prosthetic component along a longitudinal axis to secure the first prosthetic component to the second prosthetic component. A shaft of a fastener is advanced along the longitudinal axis through a threaded passageway defined in the second prosthetic component and into the first prosthetic component. The threaded passageway has a greater diameter than a diameter of the shaft. The end of the shaft is threaded into a threaded aperture defined in the first prosthetic component.
