A space-out mechanism that may be used in a tubing hanger system to install a tubing hanger and rigidize the tubing hanger and a casing hanger within a wellhead housing in a single trip is provided. The space-out mechanism may include two pieces that are configured to rotate against each other such that the axial length of the space-out mechanism can be adjusted to remove any axial gaps created in the installation of the tubing hanger or rigidizing of the tubing hanger and casing hanger within the wellhead housing. The two pieces of the space-out mechanism may include a ramp ring and a piston. The ramp ring and piston may each have ramp surfaces that rotate and bear against each other until the system is rigidized.

Tubing hanger space-out mechanism

A lockdown sleeve and a running tool that may be used to install the lockdown sleeve within a wellhead in a single trip are provided. The lockdown sleeve, may include two pieces that are rotatably coupled together via threads such that the axial length of the lockdown sleeve can be adjusted by rotation of one portion of the lockdown sleeve relative to the other. The running tool may lower the lockdown sleeve into the wellhead, actuate the lockdown sleeve to lock against an inner wall of the high-pressure wellhead housing and subsequently adjust the length of the lockdown sleeve so that the lockdown sleeve is fully landed on the casing hanger and applying any desired pre-load to the connection.

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a ram-style riser tensioner system includes a plurality of cylinders for applying a desired tension to a riser, a support structure coupled to the riser, and a plurality of gas accumulators. Each of the cylinders is coupled to the support structure, and each of the gas accumulators is configured to provide pressurized gas to a corresponding one of the cylinders. The ram-style riser tensioner also includes a plurality of support rods coupled to the support structure for reducing bending moments on the plurality of cylinders.

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a ram-style riser tensioner cylinder assembly includes an outer cylinder barrel and an inner rod barrel disposed within and extending in a first direction from the outer cylinder barrel. The cylinder assembly also includes a high pressure seal disposed along a sliding interface between an end of the inner rod barrel and an inner wall of the outer cylinder barrel. In addition, the cylinder assembly includes a cap coupled to an end of the inner rod barrel extending from the outer cylinder barrel, and a fluid reservoir disposed in the cap. The fluid reservoir may be used to store and communicate fluid from the fluid reservoir to the high pressure seal for lubricating the seal.

Apparatuses and methods for operating a downhole tool are disclosed. A downhole tool configuration device includes an upper stem movable between an up position and a down position. The upper stem comprises an extended portion. An outer sleeve is selectively coupleable to the upper stem at the up position and the down position and an inner sleeve is selectively coupleable to the upper stem at the up position and the down position. In the up position, the upper stem is operable to transfer tension to the outer sleeve and torque to the inner sleeve. In the down position, the upper stem is operable to transfer torque to the outer sleeve.

Methods and systems for operating a downhole tool

An example deflection absorbing tensioner frame for a platform of an offshore vessel may include at least one metal beam supporting a tensioner. A deflection absorber may be coupled to at least one metal beam. The deflection absorber may be configured to absorb axial, rotational, and lateral deflections in a platform deck coupled to the deflection absorber.

Improved methods and systems for connecting a riser tensioner system to a riser are disclosed. A system for coupling a tensioner cylinder to a riser includes a top pin connection disposed at a first distal end of the tensioner cylinder. The top pin connection couples the tensioner cylinder to a platform. The tensioner cylinder includes an extension rod and a bottom pin connection is disposed at a second distal end of the tensioner cylinder on the extension rod. A tension ring is coupled to the riser. An adjustable linkage system is coupled to the tensioner cylinder and includes an attachment mechanism and a positioning mechanism. The adjustable linkage system is operable to couple the tensioner cylinder to the tension ring.

Methods and systems for tensioner connection

A cylinder accumulator system is disclosed. The system includes a cylinder comprising a cylinder rod, a cylinder barrel coaxial to the cylinder rod, a cylinder end cap coupled to the cylinder barrel and the cylinder rod, and a cylinder piston assembly disposed within the cylinder barrel. The cylinder piston assembly further includes a dynamic sealing arrangement, which comprises one or more dynamic seals. The system further includes a first annular volume coaxial to the cylinder rod and the cylinder barrel, and a second volume disposed within the cylinder piston assembly. The system also includes a piston disposed within a bore of the second volume and between a hydraulic fluid located on a first side of the piston and a gas media located on a second side of the piston. The system also includes an external high-pressure accumulator, a low-pressure accumulator, and one or more tube manifolds coupling the external high-pressure accumulator and low-pressure accumulator to the cylinder.

The riser tensioning system () includes a tensioning ring () for secured engagement with the riser and plurality of hydraulic cylinders () extending between the tensioning ring and a floating platform. A gimbal mechanism () acts between the platform and the riser to allow the riser axis to tilt relative to the floating platform. One or more elongate torque transfer members () extend between the tensioning ring and the gimbal mechanism and allow axial movement of the tensioning ring and the riser with respect to the floating platform.

Riser tensioning system

Riser management systems, apparatus, and methods to maintain a selected range of tension on a plurality of risers extending between subsea well equipment and a floating vessel, are provided. A riser management system can include a mono-buoyancy can platform operably coupled to a plurality of risers extending between subsea well equipment and a moored floating vessel, and a plurality of tensioner units each connected to a top portion of a separate one of the risers to provide tension to each of the risers. The mono-buoyancy can platform can provide tension to each of the risers sufficient to compensate for a relative vertical offset between the risers and the vessel due to vessel movement, which generally affects each of the risers equally, within tolerances, while the tensioner units can simultaneously provide tension to compensate for one or more additional factors which can affect each riser differently.

System for supplemental tensioning for enhanced platform design and related methods

A pipe is wrapped with a composite to form a pre-stressed interface to facilitate load sharing between the materials. Prior to being wrapped, the pipe is placed in tension via hydraulic devices or the like. Alternatively, a combination of cured and uncured composite wraps is used in proximity to each other to apply compressive stress to the pipe. In addition, the pipe may be subjected to cold temperatures to change its dimensions prior to being wrapped with a composite material.

A tensioner anti-rotation device and method that transfers rotational force from an offshore platform deck to a riser in response to waves and currents. The device includes a bracket mounted on the deck, and a rib that transfers force from the deck through the bracket, to the rib, and into the riser such that the tensioners on the riser are not subjected to torque.

A surface assembly that communicates with subsea structures and includes a working deck on a floating structure. The working deck has an aperture extending axially therethrough. A riser extends from a subsea location to the working deck and through the aperture. The surface assembly includes a frame extending circumferentially around the riser so that the frame moves axially with the riser. The assembly also includes a tensioner assembly connected between the working deck and the frame. The tensioner assembly includes a piston slidably carried in a piston chamber, a piston rod extending from the piston and away from the piston chamber, and a shroud enclosing the piston rod. The shroud has a plurality of segments with at least one of the shroud segments being movable in unison with the piston rod.

A corrosion-resistant alloy tube is formed and bonded to a pre-machined steel alloy rod to form a riser tensional cylinder rod. During assembly, an epoxy is injected into an annular space between the tube and rod and then cured. The bonded tube is ground to a desired surface finish prior to installation and utilizes a double seal arrangement that prevents external pressure or corrosive fluids from entering the cured epoxy in the annular space.

System, method and apparatus for sleeved tensioner rod with annular adhesive retention

A riser tensioner cylinder rod incorporates a thin, corrosion-resistant alloy tube over a pre-machined steel alloy rod. The tube is swedged at one end and expanded to the inner surface of a split die. A gradual tapered surface on a stretching die provides a smooth transition during a stretching process for the tube. A pressurizing vessel traps an outer lip of the pre-swedged tube. Pressurized fluid in the vessel simultaneously causes the tube to expand and force the rod into the tube inner diameter. At the completion of the process, the pressurizing vessel is removed. The stretched tube is parted off at both ends and the stretching die is removed from the rod to complete the assembly.
