A system and method for optimizing power grid operations and enhancing the life of switching components therein is provided. Current meteorological information of a region of operation of the power grid is collected during operation thereof, along with historical meteorological data of the region. A plurality of prediction models are executed using the current meteorological information and/or the historical meteorological data and a meteorological parameter of the region is forecast by selectively combining outputs of at least some of the executed prediction models, the meteorological parameter being a parameter that causes a renewable energy source in the power grid to generate power. The forecasted meteorological parameter is compensated with physical models and the historical meteorological data, and optimal switching operations of switching components in the power grid are computed based on the compensated forecasted meteorological parameter, with the switching components being controlled based on the computed optimal switching operations.

A method for detecting an anomaly in a power network includes determining a baseline power usage in the power network, receiving data indicative of an active power usage in the power network, detecting an anomaly based on a difference between the baseline power usage and the active power usage, isolating a fault for an element in the power network, responsive to detecting the anomaly, and transmitting fault isolation information indicating the fault to a user device. Related devices and systems may perform operations of the method described herein.

Methods, devices, and systems for distributed monitoring based adaptive diagnosis of power anomalies in a power network

A power distribution network includes a plurality of power source nodes and component nodes, which direct power from the plurality of power source nodes to a plurality of load nodes; a plurality of sensors positioned to sense power flow information for the plurality of power source and component nodes; and a data warehouse housing the power flow information and diagnostic data for the plurality of power source and component nodes. The power distribution network also includes a control system configured to retrieve the power flow information and the diagnostic data; generate stress and health indices and compute a criticality for each of the power source and component nodes; and generate a risk index for each of the power source and component nodes based on their respective stress index, health index, and criticality. The risk index of each node represents the risk the node poses to the power distribution network.
