A computing device connected to a network may backup data files for one or more additional computing devices connected to the network. In some cases, the computing devices connected to the network may be ranked according to a fitness of each respective computing device to backup data files. Additionally, data files of computing devices connected to a network may be prioritized to indicate a level of relative importance to backup each respective data file. Based on the rankings of the computing devices and the prioritization of the data files, particular data files may be associated with a corresponding computing device that is designated to store backup copies of the data files.

Systems and methods are described to transfer content from a first computing device to a second computing that is not directly accessible from the first computing device. The transfer may be carried out using an application operating on the first computing device that uploads the content to the cloud storage service. The second computing device may operate an application that monitors the cloud storage service for recently uploaded content. When the second computing device detects that content has been uploaded to the cloud storage service, the second computing device may download the content. The second computing device may update a manifest file located on the cloud storage service to indicate that the content was downloaded. Subsequently, the first computing device may access the manifest file and determine that content was downloaded.

Pre-boot authentication at an information handling system is selectively bypassed based upon conditions detected at the information handling system that indicate a trusted environment. A security monitor integrated with the pre-boot authentication system detects predetermined conditions that authorize bypassing of the pre-boot authentication, such as location, behavior or password type indications of a trusted environment. In one embodiment, a password is input with touches to match a timing and position passcode, such as by mimicking a musical rhythm.

A system includes a slave device, and first and second master devices. A chipset of the slave device is capable of communication with a specific number of master devices. The first master device is configured to connect the information handling system with the slave device, to receive a transmission power setting of the slave device while the first master device is connected to the slave device, to disconnect the from the slave device, and to continuously track a received signal strength indicator of the slave device while the first master is disconnected from the slave. The second master device configured to connect with the slave device in response to the first master device disconnecting from the slave device, wherein the connection to the second master causes the slave device to communicate with at least one more master device than the specific number of master devices.

A portable information handling system detects orientation relative to a calibration orientation and communicates the orientation to a projector for presentation of a virtual laser pointer image by the projector. Orientation changes at the portable information handling system, such as a smartphone, are communicated to the projector or an information handling system generating the projection visual images to that the pointer image changes positions on the projected display in response to a user hand motion.

A local connection and sharing system includes a first local IHS that includes a plurality of communication systems, and a second local IHS that includes at least one communication system. The first local IHS receives communication capabilities of the second local IHS using one of its communication systems and uses those communication capabilities to select a first communication system to provide a peer-to-peer connection with the second local IHS. The first local IHS then provides the second local IHS access through the peer-to-peer connection to a first data storage area that is coupled to the first IHS. The first local IHS then performs at least one of (1) sending data that is stored in the first data storage area through the peer-to-peer connection to the second local IHS, and (2) storing data that is received through the peer-to-peer connection from the second local IHS in the first data storage area.

Methods and systems for automatically unlocking an electronic device via a wearable device may include a first device authenticating a user of a wearable device in response to the user closing a clasp of the wearable device and entering a personal authentication password on the first device; a second device requesting a rolling one-time password (OTP) via a wireless connection to the wearable device in response to the second device detecting that the wearable device is within a predefined physical range, and a user pressing an input key; unlocking the second device in response to the second device receiving the OTP from the wearable device; monitoring a status of the clasp, wherein the status comprises a closed or an open state; and deleting OTP or password key information from the wearable device in response to the processor of the wearable device detecting that the clasp is in an open state.
