A method and system for persistently linking sources to text copied from the sources. A first electronic document and first text appearing in the first electronic document are displayed. Selected text and an address of a source electronic document that includes the selected text are obtained from a web page differing from the first electronic document. A temporary computer object is generated to include: a header, the obtained address of the source electronic document in the header, and the obtained selected text. The header includes an identifier of the temporary computer object and an attribute pertaining to the address of the source electronic document. The selected text in the temporary computer object is persistently linked with the source electronic document via the address of the source electronic document in the temporary computer object. The temporary computer object is stored in the first electronic document after the first text.

Linking sources to copied text

An apparatus for capturing and displaying handwritten annotations, for use with a computer system, comprises a transparent digitizing tablet adapted to cooperate with a stylus in order to capture handwritten annotations. The preferred embodiment of the invention relates to a system and method for enabling a person () listening to or watching a recorded program (), to select one or a plurality of topics () () drawing his or her attention and for immediately receiving further information related to these topics from the World Wide Web. The system is based on the synchronization of local times () () of transmitters () and recorders (). The flow of information transmitted, received and recorded is always synchronized, independently of the relative positions of recorders and transmitters. The synchronization is done referring to an absolute or universal time such as the Global Positioning System Time (GPS-time), the Global Orbiting Navigational Satellite System (GLONASS) time or another suitable universal time based on a satellite system. The GPS or GLONASS receivers are integrated or connected to the broadcasting stations. At the receiver side, GPS or GLONASS receivers may be integrated or connected to the audio or video recorders. The system is also based on a plurality of hyperlinks defined during the production and recording of the broadcast program, for given sequences corresponding to particular intervals of time synchronized with the universal (absolute) time. The hyperlinks are associated with the information that is broadcast in the program. They can be selected by users during the playback of the recorded program during predefined intervals of time and activated to access additional information and services.

A method and system for decoding an encrypted file. A recipient computer of a recipient: extracts an encoded address from a filename of the encrypted file, wherein the encoded address identifies where a voice check ticket is stored, wherein a prior name of the encrypted file and the encoded address are merged together within the filename; accesses the voice check ticket at the encoded address; receives, from the voice check ticket, voice check text; displays the received voice check text visually on a computer display of the recipient computer; receives an audio signal from a reading aloud, by the recipient, of the displayed voice check text; transmits the received audio signal to a server computer that includes a voice check server; receives an encryption key from the voice check server; and decrypts the received encrypted file using the received encryption key.

The sender computer: encrypts the file using an encryption key; receives, from a server computer, a voiceprint identifier assigned to a voiceprint of the recipient; creates a voice check ticket by combining the received voiceprint identifier, the encryption key, and a voice check text; transmits, to the server computer, the created voice check ticket; receives an address where the transmitted voice check ticket has been stored by the server computer; encodes the received address within the name of the file, the encoding comprising renaming the file with a filename that includes the name of the file and the received address merged together; and sends, to the recipient computer, the encrypted file whose name includes the encoded address.

A method and system for use in a user system, for accessing information related to a physical document. An electronic copy of an existing physical document is identified and located. The electronic copy of the physical document is an exact replica of the physical document. One or more pages of the physical document are identified. A selected part of the physical document is identified using the position of points on the identified one or more pages of the physical document and in response, data related to the selected part of the physical document is retrieved from the electronic copy of the physical document. The retrieved data is presented visually to a visually impaired person or orally to a blind person on the user system, which enables the visually impaired person to see or hear, respectively, the retrieved data.

System and method to enable blind people to have access to information printed on a physical document

By asking the recipient of an encrypted received file to read aloud a check text, retrieved from a network server, that address, or URL, is encoded within the file name of the encrypted received file, the system of the invention automatically verifies the identity of the recipient, confirms that the file has been received by the intended recipient, and then decrypts the file. The utterances of text spoken by the recipient are processed by means of an automatic speech recognition component. The system determines whether the spoken text corresponds to the check text presented to the reader, in which case the system applies an automatic speaker recognition algorithm to determine whether the person reciting the check text has voice characteristics matching those of the intended recipient based on a previous enrollment of the intended recipient's voice to the system. When the system confirms the identity of the recipient, the decryption key is transmitted and the encrypted received file is automatically decrypted and displayed to the recipient. In a preferred embodiment, the system records and marks with a time-stamp the recipient's reciting of the voice check text, so that it can later be compared to the intended recipient's voice if the recipient repudiates reception.
