An example material testing system includes: at least one actuator configured to control one or more operator-accessible components of the material testing system; an actuator disabling circuit configured to disable the at least one actuator; and one or more processors configured to: control the at least one actuator based on a material testing process; monitor a plurality of inputs associated with operation of the material testing system; determine, based on the plurality of inputs and the material testing process, a state of the material testing system from a plurality of predetermined states, the predetermined states comprising one or more unrestricted states and one or more restricted states; and control the actuator disabling circuit based on the determined state.

A system and method for monitoring and managing water delivered to users hydraulically connected via a dedicated conduit loop to a water supply source and a water heating unit via a dedicated conduit loop, the system including a mixing valve(s) hydraulically connected to the dedicated conduit loop; a first set of sensing devices operatively coupled to an input and an output of the mixing valve, wherein each sensing device of the first set is adapted to generate and transmit sensed data signals; a recirculation pump hydraulically coupled to the dedicated conduit loop; a second set of sensing devices operatively coupled to selected portions of the dedicated conduit loop, wherein each sensing device of the second set is adapted to generate and transmit sensed data signals; a pressure regulating or balancing device(s) hydraulically coupled to the dedicated conduit loop; a data collection system for receiving and storing sensed data transmitted by the first set of sensing devices and/or the second set of sensing devices; and a system controller for comparing sensed data with rules, data patterns, data signatures, relationships between data, or mathematically calculated values associated with water event anomalies and generating and transmitting a notification, a warning, and/or an alert if the comparison is suggestive of a water event anomaly.

System for water management, and related methods

The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for preventing or minimizing water ingress in electronic components, particularly card cages or similarly sized and configured components, which may be used in many applications including, but not limited to, materials testing. A gutter is formed around a first portion of the perimeter of a chassis cover and a second channel is formed around a second portion of the perimeter of the chassis cover. This configuration is arranged and constructed to direct the impinging water or liquid away from such components as the air intake, the backplane, openings and exposed electronic terminals.

Water ingress prevention in electronic components

The disclosed embodiment is an extensometer to measure transverse strain with a passive vertical system making use of a linear optical encoder. The sensor arms are mounted on respective carriages which traverse on respective linear tracks. The carriages are spring-loaded so as to bias the sensor arms toward a closing direction. In order to separate the sensor arms and act against the force of the springs, the carriages are responsive to or pushed by upper and lower drive brackets which are affixed to respective upper and lower portions of a looped timing belt. The extensometer makes use of a low-friction design to minimize rolling friction in the movement of the two sensor arms. One carriage includes an encoder read-head which directly faces an encoder scale on the other carriage. In this configuration, the exact relative position of the two carriages, and hence the two sensor arms, can be read.

Automatic transverse strain extensometer architecture

The present disclosure provides an electro-mechanical fuse-type configuration built into the probe that contacts the specimen during materials testing. The design includes an internal pre-loaded compression spring and an electrical contact switch. The coil spring preloaded to the desired safety load results in the probe assembly directly passing the load from the probe tip to the load cell for loads under the point where the spring additionally compresses. Upon deflection of the spring in excess of safety preload, the spring internally compresses within the probe coupling rather than the probe tip continuing to displace into the specimen, thereby switching the state of the electrical contact switch and stopping operation of the materials testing device. In a further configuration, excessive travel of the load cell coupling is detected, and, in response, operation of the materials testing device is stopped.

The disclosure relates to an extensometer wherein the actuation of the contact arms is performed by a separate rotating bar so as to avoid or minimize placing active mechanics onto the arms. The rotating bar includes a spool about which a metal belt is wound. Rotating the bar, and hence the spool, in the desired direction pulls the metal belt which pulls a spring-loaded wedge with internal camming slots which urges the contact arms apart.
