In a server cluster, multiple nodes may host one or more virtual servers. Virtual servers that may be hosted by particular nodes are identified. From the nodes, status is provided as to nodes that are actively hosting virtual servers and status of nodes whether they are actively hosting or not hosting a virtual server. Failover events are indicated, including transition of a virtual server from a failed node to another node.

Discovering and monitoring server clusters

Technologies are described herein for cloud monitoring federations that can include cloud monitoring services (CMS) that collect monitoring information from point of presence (POP) agents. The cloud monitoring POPs may be located in the cloud, on client machines, embedded within cloud applications, or wherever they can obtain visibility into managed entities associated with the cloud. Management systems, acting as cloud monitoring clients (CMC), may interface with the CMS to obtain a complete view of services and application used by their enterprise including those that operate outside of the enterprise premises as part of a cloud or outside network. The publishing by POPs and consumption by CMCs of management information across components within the enterprise and out in the cloud may be supported by managing roles, responsibilities, scopes, security boundaries, authenticity of information, service level agreements, and other aspects of cloud monitoring operations.

Monitoring federation for cloud based services and applications

Architecture that includes a platform independent, configuration driven, presentation composition engine. The composition engine that allows dynamic generation of multiplatform user experience (UX) based on a data contract. By composition, the user can select the parts, interactions, and constraints between the interaction and parts, as well as the placement with respect to each other. The UX is dynamically composed from components that are targeted to particular data classes. At runtime, platform dependent component implementations are automatically selected by the engine based on the execution platform of the composition host. A user can create or customize the UX without writing code by composing from a wide variety of presentation widgets that access a wide variety of data sources that can work on many platforms. Compositions are targeted to both a data class and presentation type and can be either predefined or generated.

Discovery, maintenance, and representation of entities in a managed system environment are described. Apparatus described herein includes one or more agents that run on respective serves that are managed within a management system, and that generate discovery data in response to a discovery rule. The apparatus also includes a management server that is adapted to transmit the discovery rules for execution by the agent, and to receive the discovery data from the agent. Methods described herein include defining the rules for discovering data about an entity on the server, and receiving the discovery data in response to the rule being executed in an environment in which the entity is deployed. Several types of user interfaces for presenting the discovery data are also disclosed.

The data is received and process using modules and monitors, where the modules are sequenced to process the data and the monitors are used to provide condition states of the individual data sources and/or an overall condition state of a grouping of the data sources.
