Various embodiments herein each include at least one of systems, methods, devices, barcode scanners, and software for variable depth of field scanning and lighting devices and methods. One such embodiment includes adjusting variable lenses on each of a plurality of barcode scanner scan-field lighting elements to a first depth of field and capturing a number of first images with a camera of a barcode scanner at the first depth of field. The method of this embodiment then outputs at least one of the number of the first images to a barcode reading process. This example method may then continue by adjusting the variable lenses of each of the plurality of barcode scanner scan-field lighting elements to a second depth of field, capturing a number of second images with the camera of the barcode scanner at the second depth of field, and then outputting at least one of the number of the second images to the barcode reading process. The adjusting, capturing, and outputting may then be repeated again in some embodiments for a third depth of field, a fourth depth of field, and onward, depending on the number of depths of field in a particular embodiment.

Variable depth of field scanning and lighting devices and methods

A non-linear checkout stand which offers retailers additional options for configuring a store. An example checkout stand includes a housing including a first end and a second end, a conveyor for transporting items in a plurality of different directions along a non-linear path connecting the first end to the second end, and an item identifier within the housing on the non-linear path for automatically identifying the items.

Various embodiments each include at least one of devices, systems, methods, and software of or including a wearable payment processing device. A wearable payment processing device is a wearable device that allows for conducting point-of-sale transactions. One embodiment includes a mounting base having opposing sides. A first opposing side is adapted to attach to a fixed base and a second opposing side is adapted to attach to a payment processing device. The payment processing device includes a payment card reader, an imaging device, and a display device electrically interconnected by a mainboard. The mainboard of such includes at least one processor, at least one memory device, and a network interface device. The at least one memory device stores instructions executable by the at least one processor to perform product purchase transactions for products identified via the imaging device and with payment data received via the payment card reader.

Wearable payment processing device

Various embodiments herein each include devices, system, methods, and software for automatic scanner lighting tuning. One method embodiment includes determining a distance from a scanning surface to a surface of an item presented for scanning, determining an illumination setting based on the determined distance, and illuminating a scanning field according to the determined setting. Another embodiment is a scanner including a scanning module with a scanning surface imaged by an imaging device and a lighting module including at least one adjustable lighting element that illuminates according a received illumination setting. The scanner further includes a distance determining module that determines a distance between the scanning surface and a presented item and a lighting controller that receives a determined distance from the distance determining module, determines the illumination setting based on the determined distance, and provides the illumination command to the lighting module.

Automatic tuning of scanner lighting

A bar code scanner is configured for placement in a retail checkout counter. The barcode scanner includes a box-shaped scanner housing to be received by the checkout counter. The box-shaped scanner housing includes a front portion and a rear portion with a recess formed in the rear portion. The recess includes two opposing walls oriented substantially perpendicular to the scanner window plane. A first socket is positioned in a first of the two opposing walls of the recess. A second socket is positioned in a second of the two opposing walls of the recess. The first socket is oriented to receive a first connector in a direction that is different from a direction perpendicular to the window plane. The second socket is oriented to receive a second connector in a direction that is opposite the first direction.
