A cover layer for micro-electronic components and VLSI circuits is provided for protecting the components and circuits against alpha radiation. The cover layer is produced by ultraviolet cross linking of a negative resist, wherein, as a constituent for absorbing the alpha rays, the negative resist contains a substituted triphosphazene of the formula (I) whose organic radicals are bonded to phosphorus via oxygen and wherein, on a statistical average, 1 through 3 radicals have cross-linkable, light-sensitive groups. The cover layer provided good protection from alpha rays, has low shrinkage during curing and, given high thermal resistance, can be combined when mixing with other negative resists. ##STR1##

Anti-radiation covering for electronic components

Linear fluorooligomers having at least two reactive end groups per polymer molecule are incorporated into radiation sensitive polymer systems which have improved continuous temperature resistance and low dielectric constant. The polymer systems can be applied as lacquers. Preferably perfluorated poly-ethers and perfluorated alkanes are used as starting compounds. The polymeric product is usable as a coating for the production of printed multi-layer wirings and economises on through-bores and additional copper intermediate layers. A further field of application exists in the field of integrated semiconductor circuits in VLSI-technology for the production of negative photo-resists.

A method and coating material for applying electrically conductive printed patterns to insulating substrates is provided. The coating material includes a non-metallic, grainy carrier substance having metal of the oxidation degree 0 applied thereto. An energy radiation source, particularly of a deflectable laser beam, is used to secure anchoring of the carrier substance to the substrate in the region of the desired printed pattern. As a consequence of a three-dimensional arrangement of the metal, a three-dimensional nuclei distribution is produced that leads to a reliable and fast metallization of the printed pattern on the basis of chemical metal deposition. The method of the invention is especially suited for laser pattern transfer for the manufacture of printed circuit boards.

Method and coating material for applying electrically conductive printed

Linear fluorooligomers having at least two reactive end groups per polymer molecule are incorporated into radiation sensitive polymer systems which have improved continuous temperature resistance and low dielectric constant. The polymer systems can be applied as lacquers. Preferably perfluorated poly-ethers and perfluorated alkanes are used as starting compounds. The polymeric product is usable as a coating for the production of printed multi-layer wirings and economises on through-bores and additional copper intermeidate layers. A further field of application exists in the field of integrated semiconductor ciruits in VLSI-technology for the production of negative photo-resists.

A print head of an ink jet printer is formed by a multilayer structure composed of a plurality of individual photoplastic films, segments of such films having a prescribed contour being removed by a photo-chemical treatment being defined on the individual photoplastic films in successive lamination procedures by the use of masks through which such photoplastic films are exposed. Passivation of unexposed films takes place after every lamination procedure by applying a light-absorbing solution. A three-dimensional structure is built up employing photoplastic films having thicknesses in the range between 10 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m and one or more masks having light transmissive regions which define a desired cross-section for the interior passages of the print head.

Method of manufacture for print heads of ink jet printers

A filler composition composed of metal particles present in the tightest possible packing which are individually coated with a cross-linked polymer layer is provided which has high thermal conductivity and high electrical insulation capacity. Such filler composition is usefull as an addition to resins employed in injection molding and extrusion. A high resistance to abrasion is achieved by the cross-linked coating layers (22,24). A filing degree of about 90 Vol. % is achievable with such a filler composition, and such displays a breakdown voltage greater than about 100 V.

Cross-linked polymer coated metal particle filler compositions

Foamable hot-melt adhesives comprised of a per se known hot-melt adhesive having a foaming additive therein, for example an organic azo compound. These adhesives can function in a purely physical foaming manner but can also function as crosslinking material, i.e. as solidifying and bonding materials. The foamable hot-melt adhesives of the invention can be used, for example, in sealing cable ends, for filling any desired aperture in the construction field, for sealing windows, doors, etc. or for sealing articles of manufacture.

Sulfur-containing polymers, such as polyphenylene sulfide are stabilized from releasing sulfur-containing exhaust gases by adding an additive polymer having at least one reactive radical selected from the group consisting of amino radicals, amido radicals, imido radicals, and keto radicals therein, and which is of approximate the same thermal stability as the sulfur-containing polymer, to such sulfur-containing polymer. In other embodiments of the invention, sulfur-stabilization is also achieved by incorporating suitable fundamental building blocks of the additive polymer into the sulfur-containing polymer chain in the form of reactive monomers. Further, in other embodiments, additive polymers or oligomers (so-called telecheles) having reactive radicals at their ends can be introduced into the sulfur-containing polymer chain as copolymers. In addition, low molecular weight compounds having high boiling points and having structures similar to the fundamental building blocks of the sulfur-containing polymers are also effective for stabilizing such polymers.

Sulfur-containing polymers, such as polyphenylene sulfide, are stabilized from releasing sulfur-containing exhaust gases by adding an additive polymer having at least one reactive radical selected from the group consisting of amino radicals, amido radicals, imido radicals, and keto radicals therein, and which is of approximate the same thermal stability as the sulfur-containing polymer, to such sulfur-containing polymer. In other embodiments of the invention, sulfur-stabilization is also achieved by incorporating suitable fundamental building blocks of the additive polymer into the sulfur-containing polymer chain in the form of reactive monomers. Further, in other embodiments, additive polymers or oligomers (so-called telecheles) having reactive radicals at their ends can be introduced into the sulfur-containing polymer chain as copolymers. In addition, low molecular weight compounds having high boiling points and having structures similar to the fundamental building blocks of the sulfur-containing polymers are also effective for stabilizing such polymers.

Glass or vitrified carbon is produced by thermal degradation of polyphenylene sulfide or a substituted compound thereof by additions of an oxide of a sulfide-forming metal, such as Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, which is added in a weight amount of at least about 1% and preferably about 10%, in order to accelerate the degradation process, and resultant admixture is heated to a temperature above about 150.degree. C. and thereafter the temperature is increased during the course of the reaction. The inventive process is useful for production of chemically resistant glass carbon fibers, glass carbon electrodes, glass carbon containers, etc.

Method of producing glass carbon

Long-term lubrication of highly loaded lubricating areas or surfaces, such as in very high speed medical and/or dental equipment, is obtained by applying a synthetic film, for example composed of poly(fluoroacrylic acid methyl ester) onto the sliding/moving surfaces, along with a polar oil having high lubricity. Anti-microbial agents can be added to the synthetic film. A pre-coat of molybdenum sulfide (MoS.sub.2) can be provided for the synthetic film. Stationary surface abutting the sliding/moving surfaces, such as cages for ball-bearings, preferably composed of a phenol resin, can function as a reservoir for the anti-microbial agents and the oil.

An electro-optical display device has a fluorescently activated plate disposed in front of a passive display in the line of sight of a viewer. The entire surface of the fluorescently activated plate is uncovered and is available for collecting ambient light to provide an image of increased intensity and allowing the device to be utilized in environments having low optical radiation levels. The fluorescently activated plate has exit windows thereon for retransmitting the light as controlled by the switchable regions of the passive display in a designated pattern to a viewer.

A colored lamp is emitting colored light of a given range of wavelengths and particularly useful for interior and exterior lighting, for luminous advertising, for street lighting, for signal lights and for decorations characterized by a source of light and an arrangement for absorbing a light wave spectrum which has a shorter wavelength than the given range and for emitting light with a longer wavelength due to photo-luminescence with the arrangements including at least one body provided with a luminescent substance for absorbing the light and emitting the luminescent light. The body may be formed by a container of liquid, a bundle of optical fibers or a solid member which acts as a light concentrator in such a manner that the incident light is collected and conducted by means of a photo-luminescent scattering and subsequent total reflection at the boundary surfaces of the body, with the luminescent light being emitted in specific output locations.

Colored lamp

A passive display device particularly useful for signs and reflectors and not requiring any light source characterized by a device for entrapping light and then emitting entrapped light at given positions at an increased intensity. The device for entrapping light includes at least one transparent fluorescent member having an index or refraction greater than 1 and containing fluorescent particles which collect impinging light by fluorescent scattering with subsequent reflection on the boundary surface of the member and the device has output coupling zones which are disposed on one of the members such as the fluorescent member in a desired pattern for uncoupling light from the device in a desired pattern. The device may include phosphorescent particles, which will emit light during periods of darkness and which may be either scattered through a member or applied at the uncoupling zones so that the light being uncoupled is a phosphorescent light. The device may include more than one member which will entrap light and preferably all of the elements of the device will act to entrap light with some of the members being free of fluorescent particles while others contain the fluorescent particles.
