An annular catalytic converter, having a first, tubular flow path, having a diverting region and having a second, annular flow path, wherein the tubular flow path is formed by an inner pipe, wherein the annular flow path is formed between the inner pipe and an outer pipe surrounding the inner pipe, and the diverting region is of pot-shaped form for the purposes of diverting the exhaust-gas flow from the tubular flow path into the annular flow path, wherein the inner pipe and/or the outer pipe has a conical cross section that widens or narrows along the flow direction of the exhaust gas.

A honeycomb body for exhaust gas aftertreatment includes a plurality of interconnected metal foils stacked on one another. The honeycomb body has a central first flow channel running in the axial direction of the honeycomb body, as an inflow section, and has a plurality of second flow channels between in each case two mutually adjacent metal foils. The first flow channel is in fluid communication with the second flow channels. The second flow channels formed between two mutually adjacent metal foils run in a straight line and parallel to one another along a radial direction of the honeycomb body.

An electrically heatable heating disk for use within a device for the aftertreatment of exhaust gas, wherein the heating disk is formed by a layer stack formed from a multiplicity of metal foils which are stacked one on top of the other, the layer stack being wound to form a honeycomb body, wherein the layer stack has alternately arranged, coarsely structured metal foils and finely structured or smooth metal foils, and wherein the honeycomb body has at least one electrical contact at a radial edge region, wherein first metal foils terminate with an offset with respect to one another as a result of the winding in the circumferential direction of the heating disk, wherein finely structured or smooth second metal foils which extend in the circumferential direction extend beyond the respective ends of the terminating first metal foils in the circumferential direction.

Electrically heatable heating disk

A heating disk for heating up a stream of exhaust gas and/or a component for exhaust gas aftertreatment has a honeycomb body, wound from a plurality of smooth and corrugated metal layers stacked on top of one another. The honeycomb body is received within a carrier shell and an electrical contact is fed through the carrier shell. The honeycomb body is connected to a current source via the electrical contact. The electrical contact has a contact strip within the carrier shell extending in the circumferential direction of the carrier shell. An insulating region is formed between the carrier shell and the contact strip. A plurality of stacks of layers are electrically insulated from one another. Each of the stacks of layers are formed from the plurality of smooth and corrugated metal layers, and which are arranged directly adjacent to one another and conductively connected to the contact strip.

Electrically heatable heating disk for exhaust gas aftertreatment

A method for producing a honeycomb structure having at least one at least partially structured metal foil, such that, in subregions of the honeycomb structure, a portion of the at least one metal foil is arranged spaced apart from an adjacently arranged portion of the at least one metal foil so as to be electrically insulated by an air gap therebetween, includes: providing the at least one metal foil; providing a forming plate having a bearing surface and having at least one first web structure extending from the bearing surface in an axial direction, the first web structure extending in a plane parallel to the bearing surface and defining the air gap to be produced in the honeycomb structure; and arranging the at least one metal foil on the bearing surface in the first web structure.

Method for producing a honeycomb structure

A metallic honeycomb body with channels through which a gas may flow, made up of layers of at least partially structured sheet metal, the layers of sheet metal having at least in subregions at least two different structures, of which the first structure, with a greater structure height (H), determines the size of the channels and the second structure has a much smaller structure height (h) between troughs and peaks and the form and/or the structure height (H) of the second structure being chosen such that a ceramic coating applied later may fill the troughs of the second structure on average to at least 10%, in particular at least 50%, of their structure height (h). With the honeycomb body according to the invention, more coating material per unit of volume is durably attached in a metallic honeycomb body without excessively increasing the pressure loss. This is of advantage particularly for applications for reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel exhaust gases.

Metallic honeycomb body with adhesion improving microstructures

An electrically heatable honeycomb body assembly includes an electrical connection of sheet metal layers at a connection pin. A honeycomb body has a metal casing with an inner periphery, through which the connection pin is led in a bushing and electrically insulated. The sheet metal layers are alternately coarsely structured and finely structured or smooth sheets together forming a stack with uppermost and lowermost layers and channels for an axial gas flow between the layers. The connection pin runs radially approximately perpendicular to the layers and is metallically connected to at least two or all of the layers through at least one intermediate piece. The uppermost sheet metal layer preferably runs approximately parallel to the metal casing over at least 35% of the inner periphery and is separated therefrom only by an air gap. Simple production of an operationally safe and very uniformly electrically heatable honeycomb body is provided.

Electrically heatable honeycomb body assembly having an electrical connection of a plurality of sheet metal layers

A device for the treatment of exhaust gases includes at least a first honeycomb body through which the exhaust gas can flow and a second honeycomb body through which the exhaust gas can flow. The first honeycomb body and the second honeycomb body are disposed in series in an exhaust line and a first cross-sectional area of the first honeycomb body is smaller than a second cross-sectional area of the second honeycomb body. The first honeycomb body is disposed eccentrically in the exhaust line. One of the honeycomb bodies, which is electrically heatable, can be connected to a multiplicity of supporting honeycomb bodies for easy installation in a multiplicity of different vehicle models. A motor vehicle having the device is also provided.

Device for the treatment of exhaust gases and motor vehicle having the device

A particle separator for treating the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine includes at least one metallic layer through which exhaust gas can flow. The metallic layer is located in a housing that includes an inlet opening, an outlet opening and a central axis. The housing is provided with at least one inspection or maintenance opening that laterally penetrates the housing and provides a passage through to the metallic layer. The particle separator can, in particular, remain operational without having to be dismantled or can autonomously remain fully open to a flow at all times. A motor vehicle having at least one particle separator is also provided.

Cleanable particle separator and motor vehicle having at least one particle separator

A honeycomb body includes sheet metal layers forming a central current path to a radial connecting pin. A metal casing has an inner periphery and a feedthrough guiding and insulating the pin. The layers are alternate coarsely structured and finely structured or smooth sheets forming a stack with uppermost and lowermost layers forming axial gas channels. The pin is metallically connected to two or all of the layers directly or through an intermediate piece by an electrically conductive or welded connection. The current path has an electrical resistance per unit length in the connection region being greater than an average electrical resistance per unit length in the stack. The uppermost layer runs approximately parallel to the casing over 35% or 40% of the inner periphery and is separated from the casing by an air gap. Simple manufacture of a highly uniform, reliably operating, electrically heatable honeycomb body is thus possible.

An electrical connection for an electrical component or electrically heatable honeycomb body, in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes an electrical conductor passing through a metallic jacket of the exhaust system, a bushing and an insulating layer and having an outer connection section with circular cross section. The connection section has a contact surface for connection to a supply line connection piece. The bushing and/or electrical conductor near the bushing can absorb torques up to 3.6, 4.5 or 7 Nm per cmof contact surface acting on the connection section and/or an internal or external thread in circumferential direction, by shaping the electrical conductor near the bushing or using structures and/or changes to the cross section or a form-locking construction of the electrical conductor and the bushing. Damage to electrical exhaust components due to external torques, disassembly and maintenance can thus be avoided.

A particle separator for treating the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine includes a housing having an inlet opening, an outlet opening, a cross section and a central axis. At least one metallic layer, through which exhaust gas can flow, is located in the housing and has an undulation or corrugation that spans the cross section of the housing. The particle separator has a large surface for providing the lowest possible flow resistance and a low risk of clogging. A motor vehicle having at least one particle separator is also provided.

A method for generating openings in a metal foil includes at least the following steps: a) providing a planar metal foil, b) generating bends defining extrema in the metal foil, and c) generating at least one opening in the vicinity of the bends through the use of a cutting production process forming chips including simultaneously cutting a plurality of adjacent extrema of the metal foil by using grinding tools.

Method for generating openings in a metal foil

A sheet-metal layer includes anti-diffusion structures made of a high-temperature-corrosion-resistant steel having a longitudinal direction, upper and lower surfaces, a thickness of 0.015 to 0.1 mm and discontinuous microstructures extending approximately in the longitudinal direction. The microstructures have a structure height (0.02 to 0.1 mm), a structure length (2 to 10 mm), a structure width (0.2 to 1 mm), a longitudinal spacing (greater than 2 mm), formed by interruptions, from the nearest microstructure aligned approximately in the longitudinal direction and a lateral distance (1 to 10 mm) from the nearest laterally adjacent microstructure. Some of the microstructures project out of the sheet-metal layer toward the upper surface and some toward the lower surface. The microstructures cause each straight theoretical line extending across the sheet-metal layer perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction to intersect at least two microstructures projecting toward the upper surface and two microstructures projecting toward the lower surface.
