Systems and methods are provided rendering a three-dimensional volume. Scan data representing an anatomical object of a patient is acquired. A boundary of the object is identified in the scan data. A first lightmap is positioned inside the boundary of the object. A second lightmap is positioned outside the boundary of the object. The three-dimensional volume of the object is rendered from the scan data with lighting based on the first lightmap and second lightmap.

To reduce complexity and corresponding run time, quantum computation is used for rendering a volume. The quantum computation may search for voxels along a ray or the minimum or maximum. The quantum computation may orient (e.g., rotate) data for more efficient searching for the maximum or minimum. A computer-implemented method of reducing 4D Digital Subtracted Angiography (DSA) reconstruction artifacts using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation includes a computer receiving first DSA time sequence data comprising a representation of a plurality of vessels and segmenting a vessel of interest from the first DSA time sequence data. The computer uses the CFD simulation to simulate fluid dynamics across the vessel of interest to yield a flow field and determines a plurality of simulated time activity curve parameters for each voxel inside the vessel of interest using the flow field. Then, the computer applies a reconstruction process to second DSA time sequence data to yield a DSA volume. This reconstruction process is constrained by the plurality of simulated time activity curve parameters for each voxel inside the vessel of interest.

A computer-implemented method for performing window-leveling of volumetric ray tracing includes a computer system retrieving a quad-tree data structure organizing a plurality of light paths associated with a volume rendered using a transfer function and one or more window level values. The computer system also receives a user selection of at least one of a new transfer function or new window level values. The volume is rendered by the computer system with the new transfer function or the new window level values using the quad-tree data structure. Then, the computer system synthesizes an image by adding contributions from all of the plurality of light paths according to the quad-tree data structure.

In the case of a new or manipulated embedded graphical object, the server only renders the manipulated or new object.

A method for visualizing flow data from computation fluid dynamics (CFD) applications in 2-dimensions (2D) includes receiving a 3-dimensional (3D) image volume from a CFD simulation of fluids flowing through vessels in a patient that is a snapshot of a fluid flow in the vessels at a certain time, subdividing the 3D image volume into 3D data blocks, minimizing a sum over a matrix of energy interactions defined for each pair of data blocks in the 3D image volume, where the minimization preserves a local shape of the vessels, where minimizing the sum over the matrix of energy interactions is performed on a graphics processing unit (GPU), and using the minimized energy interaction matrix to display on a monitor a 2D sketch of the 3D image volume, where the 2D sketch is displayed in real-time with respect to the time scale of the CFD simulation.

A method for tracing a plurality of virtual particles through a flow filed includes receiving a flow field. A flow domain is divided into cells. Virtual particles are defined within the flow domain and values are collected for flow properties at each cell. A histogram is generated for each cell representing the collected flow properties for that corresponding cell. The histogram includes, for each of the one or more flow properties, a plurality of bins defining ranges of property values and a count of virtual particles within that cell that exhibit those properties. The histograms for the plurality of cells are advected with respect to the flow field over time. A graphical representation of the plurality of particles within the flow domain is rendered based on the advected histograms for the plurality of cells using a graphics processor.
