Circuit and method for controlling circuitry in a power converter device during a soft-start process is provided. Synchronous rectifier control circuitry is adapted to gradually apply a gate drive signal derived from the main switch of the power converter device to a freewheeling synchronous rectifier of the switching circuitry during the soft-start process. The control circuitry gradually releases the amplitude or the pulse-width of the gate drive signal to the freewheeling synchronous rectifier to avoid a large duty ratio in the synchronous rectifier during start-up so that a negative current does not build up in the output inductor.

A power distribution system is provided including current sharing circuitry, current sensing and over-current protection. The system includes a plurality of power converter modules each having a current sharing signal terminal on an input side and power output terminals on an output side, the corresponding power output terminals of the several modules being connected together and adapted to power a common load; an interconnecting signal bus coupled across the current sharing signal terminals on the input side; a plurality of feedback circuits, each of which is associated with one of said modules, each feedback circuit including a comparator (error amplifier) for comparing a feedback voltage on the output side with a reference voltage to provide an error signal to the input side; the error signal conditioned to provide a current command signal to said signal bus, wherein the signal bus provides a common current command signal to drive the power converter modules.

A hot swappable system includes a first system having an electrically conductive projection and a second system. The second system includes a voltage source having a first node having a first polarity, a resistive element, and a receptor system associated with the first node and configured to receive insertion of the conductive projection. The receptor system includes first and second conductive contacts electrically connected by the resistive element. The first conductive contact is disposed relative to the second conductive contact such that insertion of the conductive projection into the receptor system causes sequential electrical contact between the conductive projection and the first contact and then between the conductive projection and the second contact.

Method and apparatus for reducing source voltage deviation in hot plug applications

For use in a power supply having a bias circuit with a bias transformer, an auxiliary bias circuit and a method of providing power via the auxiliary bias circuit to an auxiliary load. In one embodiment, the auxiliary bias circuit includes a blocking device coupled to the bias transformer. The auxiliary bias circuit also includes a storage device, coupled to the blocking device and across the bias transformer, that provides a voltage to drive the auxiliary load without requiring a separate power supply.

Auxiliary bias circuit for a power supply and a method of operation thereof

A multi-output power supply voltage sensing method and apparatus with increased static efficiency over prior art are disclosed. The method and apparatus employ resistance in the negative sensing wire to alleviate electromagnetic interference. The method and apparatus can change the output voltage set point of the power stage, canceling or changing the output voltage setpoint shift is also disclosed.

In one embodiment, the power supply includes: (1) a substrate, (2) a main power supply mounted on the substrate and having an input and a main output, (3) an auxiliary power supply mounted on the substrate, coupled to the input and having an auxiliary output and (4) a cooling device mount, coupled to the power supply, configured to receive and support a cooling device, the auxiliary output configured to provide electric power to the cooling device.

For use with a power supply including first and second parallel-coupled converters having interleaved first and second switches, respectively, the first and second switches limited to a duty cycle of less than about 50 percent, a current mode control circuit and a method of current-mode controlling the power supply. In one embodiment, the current mode control circuit, includes: (1) an interconverter current transformer, coupled to an input of the power supply, that senses an input current of the power supply and (2) a controller, coupled to the current transformer, that moderates the duty cycle of the first and second switches as a function of the input current to cause the first and second converters to share an output current of the power supply.
