The processor determines a first pulse width associated with the first LED and a second pulse width associated with the second LED based on a level of brightness to be emitted by the first LED and the second LED. The processor also receives a gap clock and determines a first pulse start time and a first pulse end time for the first LED based on the first pulse width. Moreover, the processor determines a second pulse start time and a second pulse end time for the second LED based on the first pulse end time, the second pulse width, and/or the gap clock, in which the first pulse end time and the second pulse end time are different.

Systems and methods for preserving a pulse width modulation (PWM) resolution while increasing the frequency of a pulse width modulation (PWM) clock are provided. An electronic display backlight system may include a backlight element and backlight dimming circuitry. The backlight element may be driven according to a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal over a PWM clock cycle equal to a multiple M of a baseline PWM clock frequency associated with a baseline PWM resolution. The backlight dimming circuitry may receive a brightness code of the baseline PWM resolution and generate the PWM signal at least in part by dividing the brightness code by M.

Systems and methods for increasing a pulse width modulation frequency while preserving resolution

A converter includes a plurality of switching elements coupled between power signal lines that receive a first voltage from an external power source. The converter includes at least one capacitance, and at least one connector including a first port coupled to the first battery and a first power signal line of the power signal lines, a second port coupled to the second battery and a second power signal line of the power signal lines, and a third port coupled to an output line. A power module for a vehicle includes a bidirectional voltage converter to i) convert a first voltage to a second voltage and convert the second voltage back to the first voltage, and ii) convert the first voltage to a third voltage and convert the third voltage back to the first voltage. Systems and methods for semiconductor device selection, including identifying a worst operation condition for a plurality of semiconductor devices in a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC). The identifying includes determining power losses for each of the semiconductor devices under a plurality of operation conditions, and calculating a maximum junction temperature for each of the plurality of semiconductor devices at each of the plurality of operation conditions. A maximum junction temperature under the identified worst operation condition is determined for each of a plurality of commercially available semiconductor devices which satisfy a threshold voltage rating, and all semiconductor devices which satisfy the threshold voltage rating and a maximum junction temperature threshold condition are compared to identify a semiconductor device with a lowest system cost.

A modular multilevel converter for hybrid energy storage includes a battery. Three phases are connected in serial to the battery and in parallel to one another, each phase having two arms of sub-modules and buffer inductors. Modular multilevel converter for hybrid energy storage

A method and system are provided. The method includes collecting, from a plurality of phasor measurement units, a plurality of synchronized phasor measurements from different portions of a power system. The method further includes estimating, by a controller, oscillation modes of the plurality of synchronized phasor measurements. Each estimated oscillation mode specifies, for each of the plurality of synchronized phasor measurements, two or more of an amplitude, a phase, a frequency, and damping coefficients. The method also includes performing, by the controller, a modal analysis of the oscillation modes of the plurality of synchronized phasor measurements to identify critical modes based on critical mode identifying criteria. The method additionally includes constructing, by the controller based on the critical modes, a power system oscillation dampening control signal for controlling a grid-scale storage portion of the power system to dampen one or more oscillations of the power system at any given time.
