A method of determining eyeglass frame parameters from a digital image of the person's face and a digital image of an eyeglass frame. The method comprises the steps of: (a) providing a digital image of the person's face; (b) determining a physical scale of the face using a scaling factor; (c) locating center points P , P of the left and right irises in the face image, and determining a pupil midpoint P ; (d) providing a digital image of an eyeglass frame; (e) adjusting, if necessary, the size of the frame to the physical scale of the face; (f) combining the frame and face images such that the frame is superimposed on the face; (g) aligning the frame and face in accordance with the frame center point f and the pupil midpoint P ; and (h) determining the frame parameters.

Interactive eyewear selection system

Anodes, cathodes, and/or solid electrolytes (or separator layers) of an electrochemical cell can be fabricated from aqueous compositions containing monomers and/or polymers. In one formulation, the aqueous composition contains binding materials that are polymerized and crosslinked. In a second formulation, the composition is a latex having as aqueous phase and a solid polymer phase. Upon removal of water, the compositions provide a polymeric structure suitable for use as an electrode or solid electrolyte.

The present invention provides a novel electrolyte solvent which is usable with a variety of carbonaceous and metal oxide electrode active materials, providing improved performance over a broad temperature range, and which is stabilized to maintain cell capacity over a number of cycles.

Electrolytes having improved low temperature performance

The invention provides an electrochemical cell having an electrolyte which comprises a solute, a solvent, and an additive. The additive is a dialkylamide. The dialkylamide lessens the extent of decomposition of the solute, which is a lithium salt. The ionic species of the lithium salt are thereby preserved. The additive also prevents damage to active material by absorbing excess charge energy below the breakdown potential of the active material.

The present invention provides a method for cycling a battery, containing lithium metal oxide, particularly lithium manganese oxide (LMO) active material, in a cell in a manner which reduces the extent to which loss of capacity occurs. The present method of operation extends the cycle life of such battery.

An interactive eyewear selection system comprising: a video camera and digitizing system for acquiring a digital image of a person's face, including the temple areas of the face; an eyeglass frames database for storing digital eyeglass frame images; an automated interface for selecting an eyeglass frame image from the frames database, the image containing frame temple portions; a digital processing system for automatically superimposing the selected frame image on the image of the person's face, in a composite image, such that the frame appears to be worn naturally on the person's face and the frame temple portions are shown at the temple areas of the face; and a display device for displaying the digital image of the person's face and for displaying the composite image.

A method of improving the structural integrity of polymer electrolytes of electrochemical cells by employing lithiated fillers that are represented by the formula Li.sub.16-2x D.sub.x (TO.sub.4).sub.4 where 0&lt;x&lt;4, D is Zn or Mg and T is Si or Ge.

Polymer electrolytes containing lithiated fillers

The invention provides a new family of compounds and a method of making the compounds. The new compounds are useful as ion conductive salts, and particularly useful as salts for batteries. The compounds of the invention are prepared from three principal reagents, bis (trifluoromethanesufonyl) methane (CF.sub.3 SO.sub.2).sub.2 CH.sub.2 ; benzoyl chloride; and pyridine which facilitates reaction and then is removed. A precursor sodium salt (CF.sub.3 SO.sub.2).sub.2 CHNa is first prepared. Then, equimolar amounts of the precursor sodium salt and pyridine are dissolved in anhydrous acetonitrile. A stoichiometric amount of the selected substitute benzoyl chloride is then added drop by drop. After addition of Li.sub.3 PO.sub.4, there is pyridine release and formation of the product of the aforesaid two reagents. In the benzene ring, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 are each identical or different and are each independently selected from hydrogen and an electron withdrawing substituent.

Thermally stable, highly conductive salt

The subject invention discloses a novel method of providing a binary electrolyte-solvent solution in a solid battery system. A first component of this binary electrolyte solvent system is provided by a material which acts as a plasticizer in the formation of a solid polymeric matrix (separator), composite cathode and/or composite anode, and which also acts as an electrolyte solvent in the completed electrochemical cell. The second component of the binary electrolyte solvent system is an electrolyte solvent, which generally carries the electrolyte salt into the electrolytic cell precursor. The first and second components of the binary electrolyte solvent system mix within the electrolytic cell, dispersing the electrolyte salt throughout the binary electrolyte solvent system. The addition of the electrolyte salt to the electrolytic cell precursor acts to activate the cell precursor, and to form a functional electrolytic cell or battery system.

Binary solvent method for battery

A method of fabricating electrochemical cells employing novel plasticizers that can be removed by evaporation under vacuum is provided thereby obviating the need for solvent extraction. The plasticizers comprise 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy) ethyl acetate, dimethyl adipate, dibutyl phthalate, propylene carbonate, and mixtures thereof.

An electrochemical cell comprising a first electrode; a counter-electrode which forms an electrochemical couple with the first electrode; and an electrolyte comprising a solvent and a solute. The solvent comprises a dialkyl carbonate of the formula R'OCOOR' where each of R' and R' represents an alkyl, and having at least one of R' and R' selected from the group consisting of non-linear, branched alkyls where R' and R' are preferably different from one another.

Stabilized electrolyte for electrochemical cells and batteries

The subject invention discloses a novel electrolyte for a solid battery system. Specifically, an electrolyte solvent of chlorinated diethyl carbonates demonstrate good electrochemical stability in conjunction with specific anode and cathode materials. When used with a propylene carbonate co-solvent, it reduces or eliminates the decomposition of propylene carbonate during the first cycle. It is appropriate with a variety of electrolyte salts, and especially with LiBF.sub.4. Chloro-substituted diethyl carbonates also show good high and low temperature performance in electrochemical cells.

Chlorinated diethyl carbonate solvent for battery

Non-aqueous solid electrochemical cells with improved performance can be fabricated by employing an electrolyte having an electrolyte solvent which contains a carbonate having the structure R'OCOOR' where R' and R' are independently selected from branched alkyl groups with 3 to 7 carbons. A preferred solvent includes diisopropyl carbonate. The cells are particularly suited for low and high temperature applications.
