A flexible manifold adapted for use on a plate-fin heat exchanger core, the flexible manifold including a plurality of individual layers configured to be metallurgically joined to respective ones of a plurality of layers of the plate-fin heat exchanger core, and further including a first end with at least one port adapted to receive or discharge a medium, a second end distal from the first end, adapted to transfer the medium to or from the plurality of individual layers, a plurality of horizontal guide vanes defining the plurality of individual layers, and a plurality vertical members positioned within each of the individual layers. The flexible manifold is configured to be mechanically and thermally compliant, and can be metallurgically joined to the heat exchanger core by brazing or welding.

A monolithic core for a heat exchanger comprises a plurality of three-dimensional unit cells arranged along three orthogonal axes of the core, the three orthogonal axes comprising a first axis, a second axis, and a third axis. Each of the plurality of unit cells has a first dimension comprising an axial extent along the first axis, a second dimension comprising an axial extent along the second axis, and a third dimension comprising an axial extent along the third axis. For at least one unit cell of the plurality of unit cells, the first dimension is not equal to the second dimension.

A heat exchanger includes a first flow circuit structure having at least a first portion defined by a plurality of conduits and a second flow circuit structure having at least a second portion disposed at the first portion such that walls of the second portion are disposed between the conduits and are free to move relative to the conduits. Fluid flowing through the first flow circuit structure is fluidically isolated from fluid flowing through the second flow circuit structure.

The inlet header is disposed to fork the first fluid inlet into a plurality of first fluid branches distributed laterally across a plane normal to the first fluid axis. The outlet header is disposed to combine the plurality of first fluid branches into the first fluid outlet. The multi-helical core section fluidly connects the inlet header to the outlet header via a plurality of laterally distributed helical tubes, each helical tube corresponding to one of the plurality of first fluid branches and oriented parallel to all others of the plurality of helical tubes at each axial location along the first fluid axis.

A heat exchanger includes a first fluid manifold extending along a first fluid axis from a first fluid inlet to a first fluid outlet. The first fluid manifold includes a first fluid inlet header, a first fluid outlet header, and a nested helical core section. The first fluid inlet header is disposed to fork the first fluid inlet into a plurality of first fluid branches distributed circumferentially and radially about the first fluid axis. The first fluid outlet header is disposed to combine the plurality of first fluid branches into the first fluid outlet. The nested helical core section fluidly connects the first fluid inlet header to the first fluid outlet header via a plurality of nested helical tubes, and includes radially inner and outer groups of circumferentially distributed helical tubes.

A heat exchanger header for receiving a first fluid includes a tubular primary fluid channel oriented along a first axis and having a first cross-sectional area. A first branched region adjacent to the primary fluid channel fluidly connects to a plurality of tubular secondary fluid channels, each having a second cross-sectional area, and a second branched region adjacent to each of the secondary fluid channels fluidly connects to a plurality of tubular tertiary fluid channels, each having a third cross-sectional area. The second cross-sectional area is greater than the third cross-sectional area.

The first core stage includes a first upstream fluid intersection downstream of and adjacent the inlet and having a first inlet continuation and a first bifurcation. The first core stage further includes a first downstream fluid intersection upstream of and adjacent the outlet and having a first outlet continuation and a first recombination. A plurality of first core tubes fluidly connect the first bifurcation to the first recombination. The first core layer further includes a second core stage disposed in fluid communication between the first inlet continuation and the first outlet continuation. The second core stage includes a second upstream fluid intersection downstream of the first inlet continuation and having a second bifurcation, and a second downstream fluid intersection upstream of the first outlet continuation and having a second recombination. A plurality of independent second core tubes fluidly connect the second bifurcation to the second recombination.

A check valve includes a valve seat defining an aperture and a seating surface. A flapper is a single homogeneous component having a contact surface and a filler portion. The flapper is pivotally movable relative to the valve seat between a valve closed position in which the contact surface is sealably engaged to the seating surface thereby occluding flow through the aperture, and a valve open position in which the contact surface is a distance from the seating surface. The filler portion has a plurality of voids such that a density of the flapper is lower than if the voids were not present. A method is also disclosed.

A flexible manifold adapted for use on a plate-fin heat exchanger core, the flexible manifold comprising a plurality of individual layers, each individual layer defining a lower floor, an upper floor, and two side walls. Each of the plurality of individual layers is adapted to channel a flow of a medium therethrough, each of the plurality of individual layers includes a plurality of vertical members, each of the plurality of vertical members extends vertically from the lower floor to the upper floor of the respective individual layer, and each of the plurality of vertical members is configured to provide structural support for the respective individual layer. The vertical members can be vertical guide vanes and/or vertical columns having a round and/or hydrofoil cross-sectional shape.

A check valve housing for a check valve is provided and includes check valve housing body. First and second hinge supports extend from the check valve housing body. A stop is coupled to the first and second hinge supports. The first hinge support includes a first hinge pin interface having a first hinge pin hole to receive a hinge pin. A ratio of a diameter of the first hinge pin hole to a thickness of the first hinge pin interface is between 2.44 and 2.66.

A check valve flapper for a check valve is provided and includes a flapper body and a hinge portion extending from the flapper body. The hinge portion includes a lower ear, a middle ear, and an upper ear. The lower ear, the middle ear, and the upper ear each include a hinge pin hole having a hinge pin hole diameter and an ear outer radius. A ratio of the hinge pin hole diameter to the ear outer radius is between 0.83 and 0.91.

A check valve housing is provided and includes a base having opposite sides which are configured to form linear contact surfaces with check valve flappers pivotably disposed on either side of the base, respectively, and an additional structural member having a continuous body and opposite sides which are configured to form additional contact surfaces with each of the check valve flappers, respectively, the check valve flappers being configured to form a lip extending beyond the additional structural member.

A check valve for a housing with adjacent first and second apertures separated by a septum comprises a hinge pin, a first flapper, and a second flapper. The hinge pin is located downstream of the septum. The first flapper is anchored via the hinge pin, and is rotatable about the hinge pin to block the first aperture when in a closed position. The second flapper is anchored via the hinge pin, and comprises a primary flapper section and a counterbalance section. The primary flapper section is rotatable about the hinge pin to block the second aperture when in a closed position. The counterbalance section extends upstream from and substantially parallel to the primary flapper section, towards the first aperture.
