Electric motor

An electric machine includes a housing having an air inlet opening near a front or rear end of the housing for aspirating air, and an air outlet opening for expelling air. The housing accommodates a stator, and a rotor is mounted in the housing for rotation about an axis of rotation. Mounted on a side of the housing in parallel relation to the axis of rotation is a hood-like attachment to cover the air inlet and outlet openings so that air expelled from the housing through the air outlet opening is fed back to the air inlet opening. Disposed in the stator are pipes for flow of a liquid cooling medium to directly cool the stator during operation. At least some of the pipes project beyond the stator toward the front and rear ends, so that during operation heat is removed by the pipes from air flowing in the housing.

Electric machine with combined air and water cooling

An electric machine includes a housing which accommodates a stator and a rotor rotationally supported about an axis of rotation, and has a front/rear air inlet opening on a top face and an air outlet opening therebetween. A front/rear air conveying element draws into the air inlet openings air which is discharged from the air outlet opening during operation. A cooler is mounted on the top face of the housing, covering the air inlet openings and the air outlet opening in a hood-like manner, such that discharged air is fed back to the air inlet openings. The cooler has a front/rear partition arranged between the air outlet opening and the corresponding air inlet opening and extending upward from the top face. Air guiding elements are arranged in the housing and/or in the cooler for feeding discharged air at least partially to the respective other air inlet opening.

Electric machine

An electrically rotating machine, includes a rotor and a stator, the rotor and/or the stator including a laminated core, with an air gap being formed between the rotor and the stator, said rotor having axially and radially extending cooling paths in flow communication with each other and in flow communication with radially extending cooling paths of the stator via the air gap, wherein the radially extending cooling paths of the stator are respectively axially aligned with the radially extending cooling paths of the rotor; at least one fan for conducting an air flow through the axially and radially extending cooling paths of the rotor, the air gap and the cooling paths of the stator, wherein the air gap has at least one constriction defined by sheets of the laminated core of the rotor having an outer radius greater than remaining ones of the sheets of the laminated core of the rotor and/or by sheets of the laminated core of the stator having a smaller inner radius than remaining ones of the sheets of the laminated core of the stator.
