A gas sensor comprises a set of one or more sensor cells (SC) and a substrate (). Each sensor cell (SC) of the set comprises a sensitive film () built from a sensitive material () covering an area of the substrate (). One or more elevated structures () are manufactured in or around said area for preventing the sensitive material () to expand when being applied thereto.

Gas sensor comprising a set of one or more sensor cells

A portable electronic device comprises a chemical sensor that is sensitive to a concentration of a chemical analyte and at least two auxiliary sensors that are sensitive to parameters that are different from the concentration of the chemical analyte. The portable electronic device comprises a control device that receives signals from the chemical sensor and from the auxiliary sensors at a plurality of points in time distributed over a measurement period and correlates the time dependencies of these signals to obtain a corrected reading of the first chemical sensor. The portable electronic device may be employed for breath analysis.

Concentration measurements with a mobile device

A pressure sensor comprises a first substrate containing a processing circuit integrated thereon and a cap attached to the first substrate. The cap includes a container, a holder, and one or more suspension elements for suspending the container from the holder. The container includes a cavity and a deformable membrane separating the cavity and a port open to an outside of the pressure sensor. The container is suspended from the holder such that the deformable membrane faces the first substrate and such that a gap is provided between the deformable membrane and the first substrate which gap contributes to the port. Sensing means are provided for converting a response of the deformable membrane to pressure at the port into a signal capable of being processed by the processing circuit.

Reduced stress pressure sensor

A chemical sensor () is described with at least one layer of a metal oxide () arranged between two current injecting electrodes (') with the length (L) of the layer of a metal oxide between the current injecting electrodes being less than 50 microns and one or a pair of voltage sensing electrodes () connected to the layer of a metal oxide () with the electrodes () forming a 3- or 4-terminal arrangement for determining the resistance changes of layer material () excluding series resistances such as contact resistances close to or at at least one of the current injecting electrodes () from the resistance measurement.

Integrated metal oxide chemical sensor

In a method for operating a portable electronic device comprising a chemical sensor, at least one reference reading is taken by the chemical sensor at least one predetermined point in time. At least one compensation value is determined based on at least one reference value wherein each reference value is derived from a result of a corresponding reference reading. A result of an operational reading of the chemical sensor is modified by the at least one compensation value.

Method for operating a portable electronic device

The pump is provided with a plurality of pumping chambers and electrically activatable valves. An elastic membrane is arranged in each pumping chamber and divides the same into a first and a second chamber section. Each valve is connected to the second chamber section of a pumping chamber. When a pressure drop is applied over the valve and the valve is activated (i.e. opened), the pressure in the second chamber section changes, which causes the membrane to move, which in turn leads to a change of the volumes of both chamber sections. This e.g. allows to pump well-defined amounts of fluid from the chamber sections to a drug dispensing device.

Multicellular pump and fluid delivery device

A portable electronic device and a related methods are described using an integrated chemical sensor linked to a chemical sensor processing unit and being sensitive to the concentration of a component in a sample of air and one or more contextual sensors not including chemical, temperature and humidity sensors, wherein output from the contextual sensors is linked to a local or remote interpretation processor generating a constraint or correlation set transferred to the chemical sensor processing unit for use in determining a result of a chemical measurement as performed by the chemical sensor.

Portable electronic device with improved chemical sampling

A breath analyzer is described with at least one chemical sensor sensitive to the concentration of a component in a sample of exhaled breath including a compensator for compensating for the effect of variations in the amount of exhaled breath between the user and the sensor location with the chemical sensor being integrated into a portable electronic device, particularly with the sensor being located in an air duct with an opening to the exterior of the housing of the analyzer with the total area of the opening being sufficiently small to restrict effectively mass transport between the exterior and the sensor and/or wherein the compensation includes the compensation for different responses of sensors.

Portable electronic device with breath analyzer

In a method for manufacturing a chemical sensor with multiple sensor cells, a substrate is provided and an expansion inhibitor is applied to the substrate for preventing a sensitive material to be applied to an area on the substrate for building a sensitive film of a sensor cell to expand from said area. The sensitive material is provided and the sensitive film is built by contactless dispensing the sensitive material to said area.

Chemical sensor with multiple sensor cells

A sensor chip comprises a substrate () with a front side () and a back side (), and an opening () in the substrate () reaching through from its back side () to its front side (). A stack () of dielectric and conducting layers is arranged on the front side () of the substrate (), a portion of which stack () spans the opening () of the substrate (). Sensor chip

There is disclosed a flow sensor arrangement, comprising a main channel () for conveying a fluid, a bypass () connected to the main channel () for conveying a portion of the fluid supplied in the main channel (), and a flow sensor () for measuring a flow of the fluid portion in the bypass (). The bypass () branches off from the main channel () at an angle (&#x3b1;) of less than 90 degrees between an inlet section () of the bypass () and a supply section () of the main channel (). By such design means, particles can be prevented from entering the bypass () by this adversely affecting the measurements.

Flow sensor arrangement

A differential pressure sensor comprises a membrane arranged over a cavity on a semiconductor substrate. A lid layer is arranged at the top side of the device and comprises an access opening for providing access to the top side of the membrane. A channel extends laterally from the cavity and intersects with a bore. The bore is formed by laser drilling from the bottom side of the substrate and provides access to the bottom side of the membrane. The bore extends all through the substrate and optionally into the lid layer.

The sensor assembly comprises a substrate (), such as a flexible printed circuit board, and a sensor chip () flip-chip mounted to the substrate (), with a first side () of the sensor chip () facing the substrate (). A sensing area () and contact pads () are integrated on the first side () of the sensor chip () and located in a chamber () between the substrate () and the sensor chip (). Chamber () is bordered along at least two sides by a dam (). Underfill () and/or solder flux is arranged between the sensor chip () and the substrate (), and the dam () prevents the underfill from entering the chamber (). An opening () extends from the chamber to the environment and is located between the substrate () and the sensor chip () or extends through the sensor chip ().
