An elastomeric composition is provided that includes from 1 to 100 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight rubber (phr) of a first propylene-α-olefin-diene (PEDM) terpolymer comprising 70 wt % to 92.5 wt % propylene, 7.5 wt % to 30 wt % a C2 or C4-C12 α-olefin, and 3.5 wt % to 20 wt % diene, said wt % based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer. The PEDM terpolymer V may have a Mooney viscosity (ML(1+4)) of 25 MU to 100 MU. The composition may further include from 0 to 99 phr of an ethylene-based copolymer comprising 40 wt % to 95 wt % ethylene.

Ethylene-based copolymer and propylene-alpha-olefin-diene compositions for use in layered articles

A polymer blend includes 35 to 50 wt % of at least one propylene-based elastomer, 25 to 50 wt % of at least one impact copolymer; and 15 to 25 wt % of at least one low density polyethylene component. The propylene-based elastomer has a heat of fusion less than about 80 J/g, greater than 50 wt % propylene and from about 3 wt % to about 25 wt % units derived from one or more C2 or C4-C12 &#x3b1;-olefins, based on a total weight of the propylene-based elastomer. The low density polyethylene has a density of about 0.90 g/cmto about 0.94 g/cm. The polymer blend is useful for making a roofing membrane.

Disclosed in one aspect is an anti-skid sheet comprising at least one contact layer selected from the group consisting of dynamically vulcanized alloys, propylene-&#x3b1;-olefin copolymers, and blends thereof; and at least one substrate layer comprising polyethylene having a density of from greater than 0.935 g/cm. In one embodiment, the dynamically vulcanized alloy comprises a blend of one or more polyolefins and an at least partially vulcanized rubber. Disclosed in another aspect is a method of forming the anti-skid sheet comprising providing a melt-blending extruder for each of the sheet layers, at least one substrate layer as disclosed herein and at least one contact layer as disclosed herein, and co-extruding a melt of each component to form a co-extruded sheet. In a particular embodiment, the anti-skid sheet is thermoformed to form an article.

A method of forming a thermoplastic vulcanizate by first providing a melt-blender having a die through which melt-blended thermoplastic vulcanizate passes to form a shaped article; wherein the die comprises a flow design having at least one flow branch having a taper angle and a flow reservoir at the end of each flow branch; and wherein the taper angle of the flow design ranges from 5 to 20 degrees; followed by melt-blending a thermoplastic and an elastomer with an organic peroxide curative in the melt-blender to form a thermoplastic vulcanizate; and finally, passing the melt-blended thermoplastic vulcanizate through the flow design to form the shaped article.
