A system and method for monitoring and controlling a plurality of marine seismic devices deployed in a survey operation. A battery monitoring device associated with each marine seismic device monitors one or more battery systems associated with each respective marine seismic device. Each battery monitoring device generates battery data associated with a condition of each battery system and communicates the battery data to a central processor. The central processor analysis the data and identifies individual battery systems or individual marine seismic devices that have anomalous conditions. The anomalous conditions include a battery depletion rate above a threshold or a battery life shorter than the remaining duration of the survey operation. The central processor is configured to generate adjusted control settings for individual marine seismic devices to improve the performance of respective battery systems and to identify whether individual battery systems should be redeployed in a future survey operation or discarded.

Battery management system for marine seismic devices

A transducer assembly for attachment to a marine device for use in marine seismic applications. The transducer assembly includes an attachment portion attachable to the marine device and a transducer portion attachable to the attachment portion. The attachment portion is fabricated with a relative larger diameter and of a first material selected for strength, while the transducer portion of the transducer assembly is fabricated with a relative reduced diameter of a second material selected to minimize interference with acoustic signals propagating to or from the transducer portion. The reduced diameter of the transducer portion reduces the incidence and magnitude of drag during the marine seismic applications and minimizes the negative effects of drag on the results of the marine seismic application. The second material of the transducer portion is selected to have an acoustic impedance that minimizes interference with the operation of a transducer positioned within the transducer portion.

Embodiments herein describe techniques for controlling both a vessel and a separate controllable steering element so that a towed device moves along a predefined path or course. A steering system can include a first controller for steering the vessel and a second controller for controlling the steering element, which is in the water and also being towed by the vessel. In one embodiment, the steering system controls the vessel to ensure the steering element does not exceed a control limit.
