A separator such as for an electrochemical double layer capacitor includes acicular inorganic particles that are dried to form a porous membrane. Example inorganic particles are calcium silicate particles. A deposition method implementing slurry that includes the acicular inorganic particles and a dispersing medium along with a binder material can be used to form the separator layer directly on electrode materials.

A fluid dispensing system may include a first die portion having a first face defining a first edge and a second die portion spaced from the first die portion and having a second face facing the first face and defining a second edge, wherein the first edge and the second edge define a fluid outlet opening. The fluid dispensing system may also include a fluid inlet for introducing fluid to a region between the first face and the second face, and a cavity in flow communication with the fluid inlet, wherein the cavity opens to the region between the first face and the second face. The fluid dispensing system may further include a shim disposed between the first die portion and the second die portion to maintain the spaced positioning of the first and second die portions, wherein the shim defines a plurality of channels bounded by the first and second faces and extending from the cavity in a direction toward the fluid outlet.

A method of glass edge coating includes supplying a coating material to a jetting dispenser. Droplets are jetted from a nozzle of the jetting dispenser. Beads of coating material are deposited on a perimeter edge of the glass article by arranging for the droplets to drop on the perimeter edge after falling through a standoff distance between the nozzle and the perimeter edge, whereafter each bead flows in a plurality of directions on the perimeter edge, thereby forming a coating on the perimeter edge. During the jetting, a relative motion is effected between the nozzle and the perimeter edge such that the beads are deposited at a plurality of locations along the perimeter edge.

Water-based conductive ink compositions may include acid-washed graphite particles, carbon black particles, at least one polymeric dispersant, at least one acrylic binder, at least one polyvinylpyrrolidone binder, at least one defoamer, and an aqueous carrier. At least 90 wt. % of the acid-washed graphite particles and the carbon black particles, based on the combined weight of the acid-washed graphite particles and the carbon black particles, may have particle sizes less than 10 &#x3bc;m. The water-based conductive ink composition may have a total elemental contaminant level of less than 100 ppm, based on the total weight of the water-based conductive ink composition. Methods for preparing the water-based conductive ink compositions may include preparing a letdown phase from a first premix containing carbon black and a second premix containing acid-washed graphite. The methods may include washing graphite particles in an strong acid such as hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, or mixtures thereof.

A method of making a multi-layer current collector comprises forming a first layer from a first formulation over each major surface of a current collector substrate, and forming a second layer from a second formulation over each of the first layers, wherein one of the first formulation and second formulation is a graphite formulation and the other of the first formulation and second formulation is a carbon black formulation.
