Various embodiments include methods of managing mixed data flow types in communications in a network apparatus. The network apparatus may determine data flow priority levels of a plurality of data flows, identify high-priority data flows associated with a particular LAN interface, and assign a designated public IP address range or a designated public port range for the high-priority data. Upon receiving an uplink, the apparatus may select a source port number from the previously reserved range dedicated for high-priority data flows in response to the received packet matching one or more prioritized data flow packet filters, modify the received uplink packet, and forward the modified uplink packet to the next hop in the path towards the destination IP address in response to determining that the packet is enqueued successfully.

Prioritizing data flows

Aspects of the present disclosure provide example apparatus, methods, processing systems, and computer readable mediums implementing techniques for modifying a configuration of a radio bearer based on a request for quality of service (QoS) for a communication flow. In aspects, a user equipment (UE) receives a request for a QoS for a communication flow and maps the communication flow to a radio bearer based on a downlink map. The UE is configured to communicate over a number of radio bearers. The downlink map associates one or more communication flows to one or more of the number of radio bearers. The UE then modifies a configuration of the radio bearer based on the request for the QoS. During operation, the UE receives one or more downlink packets on the radio bearer and processes the one or more downlink packets according to the QoS.

Modifying a configuration of a radio bearer based on a request for quality of service (QOS) for a communication flow

Systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support mechanisms for identifying hyper frame number (HFN) desynchronization conditions and/or for triggering HFN resynchronization in a wireless communication system. In aspects, an HFN desynchronization condition is identified based on Ethernet frame validation. For example, aspects of the present disclosure provide mechanisms for validating and Ethernet frame. An HFN desynchronization condition is identified or detected when an Ethernet frame is determined to be corrupt based on the Ethernet frame validation in accordance with aspects herein. In some aspects, such as in Ethernet header compression (EHC) protocol implementations, an HFN desynchronization condition may be identified based on a determination that a deciphered context identification (CID) is not a valid CID (e.g., is not a CID in a set of valid CIDs).

Aspects directed towards Quality of Service (QoS) flow remapping are disclosed. In an example, upon detecting a mapping reconfiguration of a first QoS flow from a first data radio bearer (DRB) to another DRB, a Service Data Adaptation Protocol (SDAP) control protocol data unit (PDU) is generated indicating that a final SDAP data PDU associated with the first QoS flow has been transmitted on the first DRB. The SDAP control PDU is then transmitted via the first DRB. In another example, upon detecting a mapping reconfiguration of a first QoS flow from a first DRB to another DRB, an end marker parameter is set in an SDAP header of a first SDAP data PDU received from an upper layer after the mapping reconfiguration indicating that the first SDAP data PDU is a final SDAP data PDU associated with the first QoS flow transmitted on the first DRB.

Facilitating quality of service flow remapping utilizing a service data adaptation protocol layer

In a wireless network, a user equipment (UE) may support reflective quality of service (QoS), where QoS applied to uplink packets is implicitly derived from downlink packets. For example, when the UE receives a downlink packet that includes a reflective QoS (RQoS) indicator and a QoS flow identifier (QFI), the UE may apply the same QoS associated with the downlink packet to an uplink packet with one or more attributes that match the downlink packet. However, for a received downlink encapsulating security payload (ESP) packet that includes an RQoS indicator and a QFI, a modem cannot determine an uplink security parameters index (SPI) and downlink SPI pairing needed to enable RQoS because the uplink/downlink SPI pairing is known only by the upper layer. Accordingly, some aspects described herein enable the modem to learn uplink/downlink SPI pairings for ESP packets and thereby enable RQoS for ESP packets.

Reflective quality of service for encapsulating security payload packets

Aspects of the present disclosure provide apparatus, methods, processing systems, and computer readable mediums for updating QoS configurations at a user equipment (UE). An example method generally includes receiving, from a network entity, quality of service (QoS) information, a QoS identifier associated with the QoS information, and a bearer context associated with the QoS information in one of a modify bearer context request message, an activate default bearer context request message, or an activate dedicated bearer context request message; and updating a QoS configuration using the QoS information based on whether the UE is already configured with QoS information associated with the QoS identifier for a bearer context different from the bearer context associated with the QoS information received in the modify bearer context request message, activate default bearer context request message, or activate dedicated bearer context request message.

Processing mapped 5G system (5GS) quality of service (QoS) information in evolved packet system (EPS)

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for implementing reflective quality of service (RQoS) in wireless communication systems. A method for implementing RQoS that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) generally includes receiving a plurality of downlink user data packets from a first base station (BS), determining at least one reflective quality of service (RQoS) mapping rule for one or more uplink packet transmissions based on a subset of the plurality of downlink user data packets, filtering the plurality of downlink user data packets based on the at least one RQoS mapping rule, and forwarding the plurality of downlink user data packets to a corresponding application entity of the UE based on the filtering.

Techniques for improving reflective quality of service

Techniques for indicating and/or selecting a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) are disclosed. A method for selecting the MCS may comprise receiving control information, identifying a change indicator, determining a first MCS based on the control information, and modifying the first MCS based on the change indicator to determine a second MCS.

Selection of modulation and coding scheme

A base station may transmit a grant to user equipment (UEs), indicating uplink resources for transmission of pending data at a UE. Uplink resources may include uplink resources associated with transmission time intervals (TTIs) and/or shortened TTIs (sTTIs). A UE may identify pending data associated with a data type (e.g., low latency data, internet traffic, etc.) and transmit a scheduling request (SR) for a grant of uplink resources. The data type of the pending data (e.g., the logic channel group identification (LCG ID) associated with a buffer status) may be indicated such that uplink resources may be granted to the UE to reduce latency. In some aspects, the SR may indicate uplink resources associated with sTTIs. Further, the UE may prioritize pending data and buffer status reports (BSRs) associated with other data within the received grant.

Scheduling requests and buffer status reports for low latency wireless communications

A user equipment (UE) may identify a bearer (e.g., a default bearer) and request establishment of a second bearer (e.g., a high priority bearer) for use in streaming downlink data from, for example, an application server. The UE may determine a status of a playout buffer and select the first bearer or the second bearer for use in streaming the downlink data associated with the application based on the status of the playout buffer. For example, the first bearer may be used be used by default, and the second bearer may be selected if the amount of data in the playout buffer does not satisfy (e.g., is below) a threshold. In some cases, each bearer may be associated with a transmission control protocol (TCP) port associated with a TCP connection. In some cases, each bearer may be associated with different Internet protocol (IP) address.

Dual priority bearers for video transmission

Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques to enable enhanced machine type communication (s) (eMTC) and/or narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) devices to transition to idle mode after releasing a connection, such as a radio resource control (RRC) connection, more quickly than with previously known techniques. An example method includes determining, based on an indication received in a narrowband signal on a narrowband region of a bandwidth comprising a plurality of narrowband regions, whether to wait for a delay period, determined based on a configuration received from a network entity, before releasing a radio resource control (RRC) connection and releasing the RRC connection at a time in accordance with the determination.

Enhanced machine type communications quick idle transition after connection release

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for avoiding out of order uplink data reception upon data radio bearer (DRB) release or quality of service (QoS) flow addition. An exemplary method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE), includes obtaining an indication that a first data radio bearer (DRB) is released or handed over to a second DRB, wherein a first mapping maps a first quality of service (QoS) flow to the first DRB; obtaining a second mapping that maps the first QoS flow to a second DRB; editing service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) headers of uplink protocol data units (PDUs) in an uplink transmission buffer associated with the first DRB, based on a difference between a first configuration of the first DRB and a second configuration of the second DRB; and transmitting the uplink PDUs via the second DRB.

Avoiding out of order uplink data reception upon data radio bearer release, handover to another data radio bearer, or quality of service flow addition

A method, an apparatus, and a processor-readable storage medium for wireless communication are provided. A transmitter transmits data packets to a receiver, encodes the data packets to generate parity packets, stores the parity packets in a retransmission buffer, receives information from the receiver indicating that a data packet was not correctly decoded, and transmits to the receiver the parity packets stored in the retransmission buffer for recovering the data packet not correctly decoded without retransmitting the data packet not correctly decoded. The transmitter may further retransmit to the receiver the parity packets. The transmitted data packets may be encoded at a medium access control (MAC) layer of the transmitter. The retransmission buffer may be located at a radio link control (RLC) layer or a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer of the transmitter. A reordering buffer at the receiver may be located at the RLC layer or PDCP layer.
