The invention provides for a process for the preparation of an advanced epoxy resin by reaction of a compound having on average more than one epoxy group per molecule and a compound having on average one or more hydroxyl group or carboxyl group per molecule in the presence of a catalyst at elevated temperature, the process comprising (1) mixing the epoxy compound, the hydroxyl compound or the carboxyl compound and the catalyst, and (2) transferring the mixture as a feedstream to a surface exposed to an elevated temperature sufficient to produce an advanced epoxy resin which is at least intermittently moving with respect to the feedstream. Process for the preparation of advanced resins

Aliphatic polyesters are produced by the acylative ether cleavage of aliphatic monomers having at least one arylmethoxy group and at least one hydrocarbyl group. Alternatively, monomeric systems of aliphatic compounds having at least two arylmethoxy groups together with aromatic or aliphatic compounds having at least two halocarbonyl groups are used. Lewis acids are used to catalyze the reaction.

Novel complexes of macrocyclic polyethers such as 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane (18-crown-6) and disulfonates of the formula I ##STR1## wherein X represents barium or strontium and R.sup.1 is an alkylene moiety, optionally substituted with an alkyl group, are described as well as a process for isolating said macrocylic polyethers through formation of said novel complexes. In the isolation process disclosed, a macrocyclic polyether containing solution is contacted with a disulfonate of formula I to afford the polyether-disulfonate complex as a solid suspension in the solution, the suspended complex is separated from the solution and the separated complex is extracted with a solvent for the macrocyclic polyether.
