Systems and methods disclosed herein are related to an intelligent UI element selection system using eye-gaze technology. In some example aspects, a UI element selection zone may be determined. The selection zone may be defined as an area surrounding a boundary of the UI element. Gaze input may be received and the gaze input may be compared with the selection zone to determine an intent of the user. The gaze input may comprise one or more gaze locations. Each gaze location may be assigned a value according to its proximity to the UI element and/or its relation to the UI element's selection zone. Each UI element may be assigned a threshold. If the aggregated value of gaze input is equal to or greater than the threshold for the UI element, then the UI element may be selected.

An application on a computing device includes a digital ink system that supports the input and output of digital ink in a markup language document. Digital ink refers to a digital representation of object (e.g., pen or finger) strokes on an input device that can be displayed on an output device. The markup language document can include, for example, an edit box in which the digital ink and optionally other data can be input. As the input object moves over the input device, data identifying the locations of the input object are captured and embedded in a markup language element of the document. The digital ink system also allows documents including digital ink to be displayed, the digital ink system displaying the digital ink along with any other data included in the document.

Methods, systems, and computer program products are described herein an extensible input stack for processing input device data received from a plurality of different input devices attached to a computing device. The extensible input stack comprises a plurality of stack layers. Each of the plurality of stack layers performs a particular set of processing with respect to the input device data, among other operations. Each of the plurality of stack layers comprises a code interface, which is used to provide and/or or receive data from the input device and/or other stack layers. Each of the stack layers is extensible to include additional functionality to support new input devices. By separating out the functionality performed by the input stack into separate stack layers, and having each layer accessible via a code interface, the functionality of each of stack layers may be easily extended to support any type of input device.

User inputs can indicate an intent of a user to target a location on a display. In order to determine a targeted point based on a user input, a computing device can receive an indication of at least one point, an indication of a width, and an indication of a height. The computing device can estimate a portion of the display based on the indication of the at least one point, the indication of the width, and the indication of the height. The computing device can also determine the targeted point based on a location of the at least one point and based on a location of a portion of one or more objects within the estimated portion of the display.

A computing device including a capacitive touch screen and a processor configured to receive a capacitive image from the capacitive touch screen, determine that the capacitive image includes an image of a capacitive tag, identify a pattern of capacitive elements of the capacitive tag based on the capacitive image, determine bits of encoded data based on the identified pattern of capacitive elements, and process the encoded data.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for efficient real-time ink stroke smoothing, trajectory prediction, and GPU-leveraged rendering of ink stroke input. First and second ink points are received and an active B&#xe9;zier approximation is computed based thereupon. Sequentially later in time that the first and second ink points, a third ink point is received. It is determined whether the third ink point adequately fits the active B&#xe9;zier approximation. Where it is determined that the third ink point adequately fits, an updated active B&#xe9;zier approximation is computed that includes the first, second and third ink points. Where it is determined that the third ink point fails to adequately fit, a different new B&#xe9;zier approximation is computed that includes the third ink point but not the first and second ink points. Leveraging a GPU, a smoothed ink stroke based upon the B&#xe9;zier approximation(s) is rendered.

Techniques for identifying inadvertent user input, such as inadvertent touch contact or air input, are described. The techniques may include classifying a touch contact or air input as intentional or unintentional based on contextual information related to the touch contact, the air input, or a device via which the touch contact or air input was received. In some examples, the contextual information may indicate how a user is interacting with the device, such as a position of the user's hand, a location of the touch contact on a touch surface, a path of user's touch trajectory, an application with which the user may be interacting, keyboard input history of the user, and so on. When the user input is classified as unintentional, the techniques may refrain from performing an action that is generally triggered by the user input.

User experience of the performance of a computing device is improved through an operating system that processes inputs from a soft keyboard to provide information that can be used to accurately determine keys a user intended to strike while typing. For each detected tap, the operating system provides a probability that one or more keys were the intended target for the user. These probabilities may be computed from probability distribution functions that are dynamically determined based on user and/or system factors, such as typing rate and keyboard style or layout. Other components may use the probabilities to select a key corresponding to a detected keyboard tap as representing the intended user input. The selection may be made based on the probabilities alone or in combination with contextual factors that yield an overall probability that a detected tap arose from a user targeting a specific key.

Geographically distributed data-gathering client computers are connected to the Internet in the same manner as typical users (for example, via local dial-up connections). The data-gathering client computers poll a central server (the 'UserMon' server) for a target site to access. After receiving the address of a target site from the UserMon server, the data-gathering client computers access the target site and obtain performance-parameter values indicative of the quality of their respective Internet connections to the target site and/or the performance of the target site itself. Each data-gathering client computer then pushes the performance-parameter values back to the 'UserMon' server for analysis.
