An implantable and biodegradable polymeric matrix with reduced foreign body response for the regeneration and/or reconstruction and/or creation of soft and connective tissue and/or organs is provided. The matrix has a density equal to or lower than 40 kg/m, a plurality of local thicknesses of a solid component with an arithmetic mean equal to or lower than 95 μm, an average size of pores/void spaces equal to or lower than 15,000 μm, a surface roughness Rof the solid component with an arithmetic mean equal to or lower than 3 μm; and a contact angle θ of the solid component lower than 110°, preferably in the range 10° to 90°, and more preferably in the range 30° to 60°.

Three-dimensional implantable matrix with reduced foreign body response

An implantable biodegradable medical device arranged for breast reconstruction and/or augmentation, made of an interconnected porous structured polymeric matrix and belonging to the family of poly(urea urethane)s. The porous structured polymeric matrix of the medical device comprises a plurality of three dimensional channels, drilled by means of heated tools, three-dimensionally propagating through the polymeric matrix ad interconnected with the porous structure of the polymeric matrix. The polymeric matrix comprises high to-medium molecular weight hydrophobic biodegradable amorphous soft segments polyols, having average molecular weight comprised between 20'000 and 60&#x2032;000 Da,&#x2014;hydrophilic polyalkoxide polyols, of average molecular weight comprised between 2&#x2032;000 and 15&#x2032;000 Da, and low molecular weight polyisocyanates and polyols, whose average molecular weights range between 15 and 200 Da.

Biodegradable medical device for breast reconstruction and/or augmentation

The present invention relates to a method of synthesis and the use of foamed, cross-linked polyurethane polymers, as a three-dimensional support called a 'scaffold' for cell cultures in vitro and for in vivo implantation for the regeneration of connective tissues such as adipose tissue, osteochondral tissue and bone tissue. In particular, the invention relates to a method of preparing polymers or foamed polyurethane co polymers, having improved hydrophilia, which involves the use of two types of catalyst, one for the cross-linking reaction and one for the foaming reaction and the use of at least one polar aprotic high-boiling solvent. Said method comprises the following steps in sequence: a) providing a solution of a polyol or a mixture of polyols in a solvent or mixture of solvents; b) heating the solution in step a) to a temperature higher than the softening temperature of the polymer precursors; c) optionally adding an organic or inorganic filler material; d) adding to the mixture in step c) an aliphatic poly-isocyanate or a mixture of poly-aliphatic isocyanates; e) adding to the mixture in step (d)) a porogenic additive; f) adding to the mixture in step e) simultaneously a cross-linking catalyst of polyols with poly-isocyanates and a foaming catalyst to form a foamed polyurethane polymer or co-polymer; g) isolating the foamed polyurethane polymer or co-polymer produced in step f).

Foamed polyurethane polymers for the regeneration of connective tissue

A method is described for producing a microfluidic device (), which comprises the phases of producing a three-dimensional template () of geometry equal to the channelings that is desired to obtain in the device; inserting the template in the desired position into a mold (), keeping it suspended by at least one of its end; coating said template by immersion in (or deposition of) a material in the liquid phase (or dissolved or dispersed in a solvent) capable of solidifying by means of a chemical reaction or physical transformation, forming a material constituting the body of the final device; and selectively removing the three-dimensional template. In a variant of the method, useful for the production of scaffolds to be inserted into the human body, a porogenic material is added to the liquid precursor or to the precursor solution, such that the material of the solid matrix is characterized by a continuous structure of pores into which it is possible to insert live cells.
